Topic: RE: Where to find Optifast in Province of Quebec

I know that there is a weight management clinic on Boul. St Urbain in Montreal, and I believe the cost is about $100 per week. You can find their telephone number online.

Topic: Where to find Optifast in Province of Quebec

I finally got the call for my pre-op appointment scheduled for Feb. 6th.  They hospital called the next day and told me my surgery date is March 4th and I need to start the Optifast Feb. 4th.  (2 days before my pre-op)  I asked where to get the Optifast and was told I should already have it.  Then they told me I need to call the Rockland Clinic.  I called the clinic and they said I need to call the hospital.  Where do I get the Optifast?  The surgery is being done at Sacre Coeur Hospital.

Topic: Idealfast shakes and diabetes?
I take glucophage twice daily to control my blood sugar but I'm noticing consistently high blood sugar readings while on the pre-op idealfast liquid diet. I would have thought my readings would go down, not up. I also noticed that the chocolate-flavored shakes are sweetened with sucralose AND sugar, could this be a factor? I've got another four weeks of this liquid diet to go and am a little concerned.

Topic: RE: Newbie question - how long is the wait after first applying?

the meeting with the doc is after the info session, then you'll hear about your date, then pre-op testing up to one month before that, pickup your pre-op optifast and meet with nut.

still a few more steps to go.  pretty sure the schedule for all these varies but maybe 2-3 months to surgery?  longer if they are backed up

Can anyone tell me what I can expect next? As in roughly how long until the operation? They sent me an 8 page questionnaire that I have to fill in and bring with me to the info session, as well as a permission form for the operation. Don't I have to meet with one of their doctor's first? Or is that taken care of at the info session?

She's not so much worried about hunger, she can deal with hunger, but she tends to get headaches if she doesn't eat.  She's done shakes on her own and always has to stop because by late afternoon she's in a world of hurt.  She also can't imagine the restrictive diet after, but that's less of a concern, I keep telling her she won't care, but it's hard for anyone to believe how you feel right after surgery, I know that. :)

If anyone has more details on the alternate plan, I'd appreciate it.  Also, still looking for anyone who has had a revision here in QC. :)

it had to be 4 optifast shakes a day (not less) and i was allowed some low carb vegetables, steamed or raw.  no oils, fats, etc.  I think they have an alternate plan if you really seriously cannot do the shakes, but it's very particular and IMO too restrictive for a pre-op.  4 shakes was a lot and hard to get in ... you really have no issues with hunger, esp if you are keeping up on water also.

With my VSG it was 1 week protein shakes (of our choosing within guidelines) because I'm a "lightweight".  If I REALLY needed more food I could grab a cold cut.  I was reading with some QC docs you're allowed veggies.  I'm not super concerned about the preop diet but (strangely as she has amazing willpower) my Mom is really concerned about only being on shakes for potentially a few weeks.  Can you tell me what, if anything, you were allowed to supplement the shakes with?  And did it have to be Optifast shakes or could you buy your own (low carb, low sugar, high protein, whatever)?
