Well well well.. I am 1 week out of surgery.. and hello food shock setting in!!

the first couple stages where alright soup.. yougart.. soup.. jello repeat..... today is stage 3 Semi Solids!

This morning I had 1 piece of toast (no crust) with a poached egg squished ontop. SO DELICIOUS! well at least the first couple bites where!!

HOLY COW I need to eat slower! I managed to eat 3/4 of my ever expected carb meal! buy BOY o BOY did I feel like CRAP after!! It felt like I had 3 helpings of a full blown turkey dinner. So lesson learnt.. EAT SLOW.. CHEW WELL.. put the fork down!!

I am still getting use to the fact that I cant eat and drink at the same time. I miss it,,, so much :) but ill get over it.

So after my morning pouch massacre I have prolonged eating lunch.. needless to say my tummy is recouping!

The book says.. pureed meat with veggies and potatoes.. anyone have any suggestions or ideas?!??!

(p.s.... I'm - 30lbs!! holy moly I feel great!!!)

Hi Lindsay,

Great job and yes we learn as we go along and never make the same mistakes again (or try anyway...lol).

I actually hated the third stage because I hated the pureed meat but what I did have is poached fish if you like that and it is very very soft. Also try pureeing your meat with some broth and it tasted better. What also went down well were lentils. Also cooked very well. You could mush them up a bit and add some broth to it. Yes...broth...became my best friend during that period...

I got an idea somewhere...don't remember where...but you take white canned beans add a bit of pesto and yes some broth and mu**** up in a blender. It was actually very good.

If I think of anything else I'll let you know...take care and keep us posted!

Hugs,

Ada

Hi Lindsay,

Congratulations for your success so far! And yes, eat slow, chew well, take your time! Right about now, eating is your full time job and if it feels like that's all you're doing all day... well, that's normal :-)

I went back into my SparksPeople records and compiled a list of meals and snacks I was having at one-week out of surgery, which I've pasted below. Keep in mind that both food choices and quantities are totally based on my preferences and on what I was able to stomach back then; yours might (will be different). And like Ada said, broth is your friend at this point, use it as much as you can. I also seem to remember that I was using Greek yogurt as much as possible to up the protein - the third week, I'd made a veal chili and I clearly remember eating it with Greek yogurt - it also helped to make it go down easier (I should make some, that was some delicious stuff ;-)

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Cheers and keep up the good work!

Monica
