Does anyone know why they stopped doing surgeries at Rockland and why they are starting back there?  Who is eligible for surgery at Rockland?

Hi!
Yes they were scheduled to start back June 1st (I know this because my surgery was scheduled for June 1st @ Rockland MD) They called me on the 30th to say it was CANCELLED. There is a document that is missing for them to start back. Dr Denis replied to my email saying they are hopeful to start surgeries in September 2012.

The reason the stopped was because it was too costly for the Government...

Hope this helps?

Thanks- Yeah I was just curious what had changed for the government to now go back to Rockland?
My partner was approved for vsg at Rockland and has been waiting since March 2010.  I was just thinking that maybe now that they are doing day surgeries at Rockland she may be eligible to go there again.  But I don't know what the cut off is in terms of BMI...maybe she's on the fence now.

I wish Martine would post info on here!  LOL.

LOL!
They said it was an administrative error....

The BMI cut off is 50 and as long as there are no other issues: Blood pressure, sleep apnea ect.. if she was on the Rockland list, she will still be on the list.. however, when she goes for her pre-opt (which is at sacre coeur) Martine will weigh her and re-check her BMI.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for her!

We were approved (my BFF and me) at Rockland back in 2010 too.. so hopefully she will be in the first few months of surgeries at Rockland.. if they ever get the **** straight with Quebec!

Oh okay, well that would be good news for my partner then - thanks for the info!

It bums me out when I dwell on the waiting...but I think the summer is going to just fly by, don't you?   And you've been through such a roller coaster, but its just this last little bit to get through, right?  And then we'll join them on the bench soon enough.  Crossing my fingers for all of us!

Waiting is the hardest part.. it took a lot to come to the decision to have surgery and how it's seems like time is standing still! With one road block after another.. I haven't even really started telling people that I have another date yet, because I don't think it will happen now :(

I think it's ridiculous if you look at the over all picture that the government is putting up such a fight and making it so hard for us to have this life saving surgery!

I can't wait to be on the losers bench! I've already lost 20 + lbs thanks to optifast... and I plan on doing another 2 weeks before the "scheduled" surgery date again... just to be safe! Martine said if I didn't gain back what I had lost I didn't have to, but I don't want to take ANY chances! ;)

Hang in there, it's coming! I know it! :)
