Is it normal???

Hey Guys!
I was wondering if it was normal to be hard on myself for not losing more than a pound a day? I've always been pretty hard on myself because I know what I am capable of. I used to lose at a rate of 10 pounds a week back on several low-carb diets so why am I so hard on myself when the scale is still going down? Are you guys as hard as I am? I'm basically ingesting 600 to 900 calories a day and still those numbers stay somewhat the same. I guess a pound of day is good. That means in 172 days I will hit my goal. That's in less than 6 months. Ok now I know I'm not normal. LOL

Don't be so hard on yourself we all want to lose it now.  Take it easy and only get on the scale once a week.  It can drive you nuts believe me.  I went through that and I kept hoping on the scale and it was horrible.  Now I am going to just  weigh on Mondays. Remember you are preparing for surgery. It will be good once things settle in.   Hugs QC.

Hey there Derek! I am so not surprized by your post....and I say that with luv . You are so darn determined to beat this thing that it sometimes comes back to nip you in the butt! You are very capable of attaining your goal but lets reframe this issue abit ok?. Obesity is not just a calories in - calories out equation (that is in my humble opinion). If it were so most of us would have had a handle on our problem years ago. There are so many complexities with losing and maintain weight. Your body is an amazing adaptive being and it will do anything to survive so you are in the begining of your journey where your body will hold on to its reserves for as long as it can. So I would readjust your mind frame and I definately think 1 pound per day is more than adequate. After surgery I was averaging 2 pds a week with a 800 cal diet and that lasted about seven months and look how far I got.......So don't be too hard on yourself and rethink those darn goals of yours....

Derek,

I agree with Brenda.

I know that we all have an attraction to the scale on a daily basis, however, be carefull about that. Some day you might even be up because of water retention or other. Than those day, you would be down.

Do your best and don't worry so much about your friend the scale!!

I'm right there with you, Derek. Rationally, I know I should be grateful for every little pound I lose, and that if it took me a few years to get to this point, it will obviously take many months to get back to a healthy weight. But the truth is that I can't shut up that little voice in my brain that makes me feel like crap for letting things get this far or for celebrating being 237 lbs. when I should be 100 lbs. lighter. It doesn't matter if I started at 246 lbs, 237 still isn't anything to be proud of.

I just wanted you to know that the way you feel is very normal. And I agree with everybody else: if the scale is driving you nuts, stay away from the scale! :-) Trust the process, you know you are doing everything you're supposed to be doing and the results will come sooner or later.

I'll try to listen to my own advice ;-)

Thanks for your feedback guys! I knew I could count on you guys to set me back on my way. I will not discourage but I will continue weighing myself everyday. For example, the scale is still showing me the same number as yesterday so I will just keep at it. Well see what the numbers show come our Monday weigh-in.

Hey Derek,

As an experiment you should have your partner hide your scale for one week.  Then just commit to your program and enjoy the celebration of your accomplishment come weigh in day.

Try it out and see if it helps or just drives you crazy.  Then you can vlog about it!!

I like the idea Elena but I can't omit the scale for a week without hidding it! I'll do it for next week. The only thing is, I track my weight everyday. I have a nice chart and not tracking for 7 days it'll mess it all up. But I will definitely do it next week and blog about it.

Thanks for the idea!

Derek -

If must weigh in daily, then you could do a blind weigh in where your partner only sees the number and records it for you.  Then you could still be surprised at the end of the week.
