Hi there,

I was reading on the Ontario forum and someone posted a link for the St. Joes gastric bypass handbook.  It's a big 87 page document which is online.  Here's the link.

http://www.stjoes.ca/media/PatientED/F-J/PD%206000%20Bariatr ic%20Surgery%20-%20Gastric%20Bypass%20April%202010.pdf

I took a quick look at it and was impressed by how detailed it is.  I'm wondering if some of you surgery veterans can have a look and give me your reactions.  I'm having vsg surgery and was hoping to have a good guide to use, particularly since I know my Montreal surgeon (Dr. Atlas) doesn't offer many English resources.  Do you think the diet portion is pretty accurate for your experience?

Thanks everyone!

Elena

Hi Elena,
This is a great book and from what I have read quickly, this could be just as well used for us. I wish our documents were as well informed here. What a great handbook for WLS patients.

I also read it but  am not sure if it applies to Gasyric Plication.  l do have a sheet that my son got from Dr. Graber when he had the RNY a couple of years ago. I have it in my folder and will check with Dr. Atlas.  I think it is basically  the same as the sleeve.  open for suggestions.   Doris QC.

Hi Doris,
This handbook is for the RNY so I don't know what you'll be able to find extra in your son's sheet. Obviously you can read through it and know what to expect but most of the information is the same for all the types of surgery.

I took a quick look at it. It is very well made and has alot of good information. It resembles what I got but it is more detailed in certain areas. My surgeon has a website and it does have a detailed outline of what to expect and follow. If you are interested here is the site www.weightlosssurgery.ca and it is in english. Both are great go to guides. Thanks for sharing the info. PS....there is no way you can swallow a pill that size for at least twelve months post op. Not me anyway.

Thanks Brenda - Oh, you had the gold standard in surgeons - Dr. Christou!  I was really impressed by his website and the clear concise information.  Too bad he is not accepting public funded patients anymore - bet his list would be decades long I'm sure.  Thanks for the reminder about his website - I'm going to review it as well.
