What did you guys eat while on liquids?
Hey Guys,
I know we are allowed to eat some things while we are on our liquids but I just wanted to know what you guys ate to get you through it. I'm thinking of going to get some cucumbers so I can chew on something. I know they are a tolerated veggie on the diet so I'm excited for tonight.

Hi Derek,
The first time I did the Optifast, I was really strict and followed the clinic's rules to the letter; thus, I only consumed 20-calories worth of either pickles or broth. It is a wonder I didn't go nuts!
The second time, I went at it alone and I have myself some leeway. I used to replace one shake with a "sandwich" made of really lean turkey breast rolled in lettuce leafs. It used to be the high point of my day ;-)
I think the important thing to consider when choosing foods during the liquid diet is that they should be hypocaloric AND very low in carbs so that they won't kick you out of ketosis (in case nobody told you, ketosis is the wonderful chemical reaction that makes it possible to support the very low cal diet without killing anyone... or almost!)
Cheers and good luck, you'll get there in no time!
Monica

Thanks for the input Monica.
If ever I'm going to eat something it will be zero-carbs for sure. Oh and I knew all about Ketosis. I should be in it sometime tonight or tomorrow. I can't wait because I can't tolerate my mood these past two days.

I ate dill pickles, just make sure you check the label. Some have sugar.
Also had fried onions and mushrooms in a non stick skillet no fat added.
Celery was good too.
Hang in there it will get easier. Your doing great.
I only had 2 or 3 shakes a day too. Never managed that forth one.
Can't think what else, if I do i'll be back.

On the pre-op diet, you are permitted to eat vegetables only. I ate Moishe's natural pickles, to get rid of all the sweetness of the shakes, cucumbers, mushroom with onions, and other vegetables roasted in t-fal without oil or butter. I also ate salads, with mini tomatoes and vinegar only or Walden farms dressing. ( you get those in health food stores, and there is NOTHING in this dressing, but it is tasteful ) Sylvain ate roasted pickled pepper also... And Da vinci syrup to change the flavors of the shakes!

Good God, I was only allowed cucumbers and celery. Tea and Coffee (black). That was it! I found the liquid diet horrible and the first four days were murder! But I did it and I got through it and so will both of you....and if you're allowed veggies; Eat them up as drinking and eating post op for the next month will be bland to the tastebuds.
