What do you say?
Hey guys,
I have a question for all you post-ops. What do you tell people when they ask you how you lost your weight? Do you mention surgery? Do you tell them with healthy eating habits? Exercise? A mix of all of these? How do people react to the surgery part? With the upcoming surgery some people I know don't know I'm going for surgery so I just wanted to get your input on this topic as I don't know what I would answer.
Any input would be appreciated thanks gang!
I'm still excited! YAY!!!

Hey Derek,
For me I didn't tell everyone either before surgery.
As I had gotten a few negative comments and dirty looks from colleagues and people who are not close friends. So I decided to keep it to myself.
When they ask I judge by who it is what I will say. If I don't think they will respond well to the surgery I just say low carb, high protein and exercise.
If I feel comfortable with them or it's someone with a weight problem I tell them about the surgery.
But more and more people do know about the surgery and that's ok with me. Cause now they can see that it does work. And that the "side effects" are not as bad as they think it will be.
Good luck with your decision
Cindy

I am proud of my surgery!! I let them know. I do tell them that I lost some of it on my own first. Most people are intrigued... and several have asked me more details because either they know someone considering it- or they themselves are interested. I have 2 friends who are seeing their doctors now pre op!! I tell them to do their homework, find the best surgeon, and surgery for them and go for it!
At the beginning, I didn't know if I should tell, like Cindy said, I choose who I told, depending on what I thought they will say about surgery. But after a while, I was feeling like an imposter saying I lost weight by exercising and diet, and since weight was dropping so fast, I started to tell every body, and only one person had a negative reaction about it. But I always explain that surgery is a tool, and that I worked on my food choice and exercises. More and more people know about surgery. My husband decided to tell and everyone was very kind with him.
