Gastric Plication-Your thoughts...

Hello and a very Happy New Year to all!!!

I ran across these two articles on the BariatricTV.com site. It was a very interesting read. It's the first time I've heard about this procedure and would like to know your thoughts on this.

http://www.wlshelp.com/news/new-weight-loss-surgery-appears- safe-and-effective/

http://www.wlshelp.com/news/stomach-folding-surgery-shows-pr omising-weight-loss-results/#more-377

It seems a less drastic surgery than the Gastric Sleeve but my question remains in its effectiveness long term and percentage of weight loss. As well if any surgeons in Quebec are doing this procedure?

Would love to hear your thoughts my friends.

Hugs,
Ada

Hi Ada!...and Happy New Year to you and Diana!

I've checked the articles and this new procedure (not performed in  Quebec as far as I know) could be a good thing but not much is said about safety and effectiveness. Sure, it seems less invasive than traditionnal sleeve, but i'd like to see numbers accompanying their claims...

Particularly about infection risks; folding stomach on itself could create small pockets wich could get rapidly infected (like diverticulitis and hernias)...and how resistant are the sutures that are supposed to keep folds in place???

All in all, it may be a good idea, but info from different sources could be useful

Good news Doris! Succes rate for gastric plicature should be as good as the sleeve...cause it seems to be a variant of the sleeve.
