Flooded but not evacuated

Hi guys, some of you may of heard that my town was declared a disaster zone today due to flooding and having over 175 ml of rain in the last 48hrs. It is two am Thursday morning and it is still raining. My basement is flooded and my neighbor's driveway is washed out and I have a gushing river leveling with my backyard lawn (the water ditch is five feet deep to give you an idea of the depth of water!). My husband is sleeping right now. We are each doing shifts at this point to ensure all stays ok and that we stay safe. I have three subpumps doing there jobs but they are not empting the water fast enough so I still have three inches of water all the time. We are vacuuming the rest....So I am on a break and trying to stay awake and thought of checking in. I am doing ok and there are people in my town who lost everything so all in all it is just a major pain especially with the cold coming in and the cleanup we'll have to do during our xmas holidays. I'll keep you posted on our progress!  Thanks for listening. I needed to tell someone!

Good evening guys and thanks for your thoughts, prayers and kind words! I needed them. The worst is over and the rain has finally stopped this morning. The water level dropped a couple of feet and that was enough to gain some headway. My basement is finally empty of water but still have a few spots where the water is seeping in. We have a major cleanup job on the way for the next few days. I spent the day cleaning the basement windows to clear them of the mud that had gotten in as the temperature is supposed to drop to minus 7 tommorrow. I wanted to make sure they didn't freeze up with all the mud everywhere. Cleaning windows in the summer is one thing but cleaning them in cold weather is tough on the hands....burrrrrr! We are fairing relatively well considering. I am a little fuzzy in the brain functioning department as I got two hours of sleep around 4 am. It will be an early night tonight. Alot of my neighbors and friends haven't been as lucky though. Some have lost everything and one week before Xmas. I was getting ready to put up the xmas tree a couple of days ago but I don't think I have the strength to decorate it and such with all the major cleaning we need to do. I don't have children so I don't think it will be a big disappointment. Our Xmas lights are up outside so that we add a cheery note in all this mess. Anyhoots, that is the situation tonight. The house is ok and the rest is just material stuff. It will be taking out the walls and cleaning with a bleach product that will be time consuming. My husband's and my work schedule are opposing for the next few weeks so we'll be doing the cleanup individually which will be long and though. We'll see what we can work out. I do know we each are off on the 24,25,26 so that gives us three days. Thanks again guys for all of your support.

I am happy things are not turning so bad for you. Hope you'll have time to rest and celebrate between the cleaning and the work... But on a positive note, you won't need to go to the gym to exercise with all that cleaning!!

Good luck, and my heart is with you and your husband, and with all the Gaspesians that are living that very sad Christmas time...

Hi Brenda,

So sorry to hear about the terrible flooding in your area. I'm happy to hear that the rain has stopped and the damage not too critical.Count your blessings at this time that nobody was hurt and that the damage was minimal yet the cleanup sucks!

My thoughts and prayers are with you, your husband and your neighbors. As Diane said good excersize.

Huge hug my friend!

You guys made me laugh reading your posts! I never even had time to think of exercise! But, you're right. Today I walked about 50 times a flight of stairs with my hands full of gypsum board, wood, and garbage bags full of stuff. Good cardio and leg workout!I've been negligent with my food choices as I nibbled more than sat down to eat. Given the cir****tances all is good!
