I've read a lot of posts on vsg and i see that different dr. tell you different things....   So i wanted to know what sacre coeur drs tell you to drink/eat when first out of surgery???   Are you on clear liquids only and for how long?  More than that?   I know i'm not there yet and will probably get some more info before my surgery but just want to get an idea before so....
Diane, you've lost weight so fast, what was your meal plan at the beginning for a day and what does it consist of now?
Thank you all
Anne

Hi Anne,

I just had my surgery with Dr. Atlas on Aug 31.

Yes, you will have all of the information when you have your group meeting with the nutritionist. However, to summarize, when you come back your surgery, you are allowed to take small sip of water or a small ice cube but just for your comfort (dry mouth).

The next day, the Dr. sends you to a scan to ensure there is no leek in your new stomatch.  Once he reviews the scan you are allowed to get some broth, juice and jello. This will be your menu for day 2 to 4.

Starting day 5 to day 8, you start with the semi-liquid diet (yogourt, soup in the blender, etc).

After, it is progressif, you will have shredded meat, eggs, mash vegetable up to day 15. By then you start integrating other types of food.

I hope it helps but it is very well descride in the guide provided at the session.

Hi, just like Nathalie said, you will get a guide to help you throught the stage after surgery, it's a guide for the steps to follow, but some heals faster than others, so even if they say you can eat purees at that stage, if you are not ready, you can wait a little bit. But don't go faster, your stomach will have to heal...
At first, I had a problem with a yeast infection in my esophagus, so I stayed on liquids for a full month, after that I started to eat soft food.
I follow what they said in the hospital, eating protein first, then vegetables, and if you are not full, you can eat a little carbohydrate ( rice, potatoes...)
I always try to get at least 80 g of protein in. I think my sleeve was quite small, because before the 4th month, I was only able to eat 1/2 cup at a time. I wasn't even able to eat a full yogurt!
My menu was a protein shake in the morning, 2 oz of chicken or other meat for lunch and supper with a small quantity of vegetables, a yogurt or some fruit for snacks . I wasn't able to eat bread or pasta, too filling, it felt like a lump in the stomach, maybe that eating less carbohydrates helped me lose faster.

Now, at 7 months, I eat more, I can eat 1 to 1 1/2 cup per meal, I can eat 3 oz of meat, with some vegetables and a little pasta or rice. I am still unable to eat too much bread. I can now eat a little dessert after the meal, like a yogurt or fruit, before, I had to wait 2 hours. I need now to eat something every 3 hours ( before, I wasn't hungry at all, I often forgot to eat!) so I eat fruits, vegetables, some yogurt with protein, or a protein shake .I am still taking a protein shake every morning, it is fast, easy and nutritious. But I am not always that good girl, sometimes I eat popcorn in the evening or at the movies, some french fries, ice cream or cake...etc. But it is easier to limit the quantities, and go back on track after.
I always try to eat good dense proteins for lunch like chicken or beef, because then I see that I am less hungry , and lass tempted to graze in the evening. If I eat some fast food like a Mc Do burger ( with half the bread) I am hungry after an hour, and want to graze all day. It is important to choose good filling food.
The nut said to aim for the smallest portions of the Canadian alimentary guide, that's what I do.
And I am still losing pretty fast, even faster than at the beginning. But I started going to the gym at 6 weeks post op, 3 times a week, I do 40 min of cardio ( 2 X 20) and 20 min or more weight training. Having more muscles speed up the metabolism, and it helps shape your body.

Everybody tells me that I look 20 pounds less than I weight, and I think it is because of the gym...When I looked at the pictures when I was young and 160 lbs, I see that my bottom is slimer than it was and I weight 180. I am taking the same size of clothes that I took back then, with 20 pounds more, and this is because of the gym I am sure.
I never liked exercising, and it was difficult at the beginning, but now i am starting to like it, I need it, and I see the results. I take it as an hour to take care of myself, with no children after me!

sorry for the long post, hope it helped you!
have a nice week end!

Diane
