Hi All
I know in Ontario that if you send in a request for an operation report, the doctor or facility has to comply within 90 days. Does anyone know about the laws in quebec? Getting a copy of my operation report is like pulling teeth!

You need to write a formal letter requesting it with the date of the surgery to the archive department of the hospital that you had your surgery. There is no time frame obligation in Québec but in general your request is treated within a three week period give or take a few days. The consent needs to be in writing. It took me about two weeks to get mine. If you live in the area you can go in person and they can give it to you immediately after signing the consent form.

I faxed a request weeks ago. When I called they could not find the op report. My doctor did not submit one :(. It may have been miscommunication due to the fact that I speak English but I thought they said 4 months to send it - when we thought they had it. Can't seem to get it from surgeon. I wondered if they have a legal obligation to get it?

It is called a protocol opératoire in french Jennifer. The surgeon's obligation is to submit it to your file at the hospital. He is not legally allowed to keep a copy. Maybe the surgeon hasn't written it up yet?
