Some question for Brenda, our first " at goal" member...
Brenda, you are our role model! I have some question about reaching our goal...
First, how did you chose your goal?... My doctor said that to be in the overweight range of BMI is what they are looking for to call surgery a success, but I am going for a normal BMI. But I know BMI doesn't acount for the small or large bone constitution, or the muscular mass. I aimed for 150 lbs, which is a 23 BMI, but I don't know...What is yours? I don't want to be too thin, because at " my mature" age , I don't want to look older!! LOL If I choose my goal by the way I feel, I would stop right now, because I feel very good, but I still want to lose a little more, for a healthy BMI and... I want to lose this " muffin top" , to look better in jeans!
That brings me to my 2 nd question... Are you trying to stop weight lost now that you reached your goal, or do you want to lose a little more? and If you want to stop, how will you do that? Because after surgery, the body can lose for 18 months they told me...
And finally, like I said in my other post, are the sizes dropping faster when we approach our goal?
I just don't have any idea what size an average normal BMI woman wears, since I have never been there since I was 10 YO !! I Thought about medium top and 10 pants, but I am now at large and almost 12, so I don't know... I want to buy a winter coat, and since it is expensive, I want to have an idea for the size, so I could keep it for a few years... If you don't mind, which sizes do you wear? I know everyone is not the same, but it will give me an idea!
Thanks for taking the time to answer me, and again big congrats for your achievement! And we want to see pictures of you at goal!!!
((hugs))

Boy Diane, I am feeling pressure now....lol
I am not sure if I can answer all of your questions as I don't consider myself yet as achieving the ultimate goal which is maintenance. So here goes......the weight goal was discussed with the Nut and they had a special scale that weighed your bone mass with muscle mass and then they added healthy fat and that gave us an estimate weight of 180lbs (my bones, muscles weighed 145 and she added 35lbs of fat). I thought that was reachable. Then I calculated what my weight should be with a normal BMI. I am 5ft9 in height so that gave me my 165lbs. I never ever thought I would actually be able to achieve this goal as none of my sisters are that small and we are all tall square shouldered girls. But, reading posts and seeing some of the successes on the board I decided what the heck I will put it as my goal weight and if I achieve it, I,ll be thrilled. If not well I want to at least try and achieve the 180lb mark. I will see what the surgeon says about my weight loss. It has been more rapid since I am under 200lbs. I know I have lost some muscle mass so I need to work on that. My legs are more weaker now than when I was overweight so weight training is coming in the near future.
As for your question about how to stop losing.....well I am not sure of that one. I am focusing on eating full healthy meals. I am more hungry today but some days are still difficult to get everything down. I am supplementing less and less with protein and trying to eat more and more dense protein. I am a little scared at this point as I don't know how to maintain. On the RNY boards they say that the body will stop to lose and will experience a regain and then settle at a specific target weight. So I am trying to have faith in the process and trying not to get to caught up in the number. I don't think I should go lower than 150lbs. So for now that is my minimum lowest weight to be and I will still be in the normal BMI. At this weight I am pants wise a 14 or 12 depending on style and cut. My chunky section has always been my thighs so what fits in the thigh needs to be taken in in the waist area. I am now a M, L, or even XL top depending where I shop and what the style is. Generally it is a M in tanks, slips and then a L or XL for shirts, tops etc. Blazers are a 12. So if you are already in those sizes you'll prabably get down two more sizes by goal. It is really difficult to buy clothes for the long haul at this point as your entire body shape changes but I did indulge a bit. I bought a beautiful rain trench coat for fall. It was 70% off at the Bay and fit me like a glove. I will definately take a picture and post it! It is a burnt orange color. It is my splurge of the summer. I would try and wait on the winter coat as long as you can. I haven't bought one yet....We'll have to go shopping together for one! You will definately lose more weight in the coming months and as you get closer to goal well you know that your body will not change drastically after that point on.
I am working on the picture thing. My girlfriend took pictures of me and them during their visit so I anxious to see them.
Hopefully, I helped you a bit but you and I Diane are paving the way on this board. Maybe some more experienced people will also read this and post. I will be asking alot of questions on the rny board and if something comes up I will let you know. thanks again for your kind words of support. I am so happy that we are in this journey together. hugs back at you....

AT GOAL..................NORMAL BMI! DOING THE HAPPY DANCE
Thank you very much Brenda, your answers reassured me about what I thought. I never heard of the special scale that weights bone and muscles, but I will love to know my muscle and bone weight... Don't think the nut here has it, as I never heard about it... I see my body is becoming more muscular with the work out, so that helps shape the body, and everyone is telling me my figure had changed a lot in the last month...
As for maintaining, I understand what you mean, that is THE real goal to maintain this weight. But I know you will be able to do so, you are very determined and active, so that should help... Like you said, I think we'll have to learn as time goes how to stop losing and maintaining... Well, I think I am just so impatient, I have to reach my goal first!!! LOL
I cannot wait to meet you too and chat all night! Et je suis toujours partante pour magasiner!!
Thanks again!
Diane
