Spoke to Martine...

So I decided to call and see what's happening with my surgery date and I spoke to Martine. She was very helpful and didn't rush me at all.

The good news is I am still on the list the bad news is I need to wait some more...

She told me that they are presently calling people from March/April 2009...so Derek I forgot when you had your consult. (Actually they do not go by the date of consult...they go by the date that it's filed in the hospital) so my consult was in Dec.09 but filed in January 2010.

So she said that it would not be this year for sure... That I am about 8 months after the people they are contacting presently. She was actually very encouraging and told me to just get as prepared as I can...any way I can so pre and post op will go smoothly.

So it's a waiting game for now but I do feel better knowing that I'm still on "the list".

Don't you just love Martine ! I have had to call her a couple of times and she's always very polite and as helpful as she can be.

I'm sorry to hear it's going to still take a while for your surgery, but like you said it's a relief just to know you didn't fall in the crack somewhere.
I was always worried my file got lost behind the filing cabinet or something... 

Time will fly by faster than you think.

Hi Ada,
That sucks that they are just calling people for March/April 2009. For me, my official date entered in the system is May 21st I believe so I may still be a couple of monts away. Like I've said, if I don't hear anything from now until September 1st I will be giving them a call. There were only 2 people ahead of me in May so there can't be much more wait for me.

You'll see, the time goes by fast!

Ada, like you said, at least you are still on the list... and you may have less than a year to wait, that will go fast... just look at how the time has pass since our kids were babies!!!LOL
Years go by so fast as we get older!!!  Everyday brings you near your goal!

I definitely know what you mean when you say I'm on "the list". The way I see it is, being on the list means its almost over. No matter its a year or two and a half, you are getting this surgery. Think of how long we have lived with this weight, with these issues. Think of the years that we all struggled to find clothes that look good and all of the uncomfortable situations brought about by our weight.

Every month that passes by is one step closer to getting this surgery and getting on the road to happier, healthier life.

You will have this surgery, Derek will have this surgery, I will have this surgery, its all just a matter of time. I'm waiting for the day when we can all get together and say we did it. Its like the end of a jail sentence in my opinion. Be strong and just hold on, you'll be getting this thing before you know it my dear.

Omar I love the jail analogy. People who aren't in it don't know how it feels and we just wan't to get out. Awesome! Thanks for that. It's definitely one way of thinking about it.

I feel for you all....I remember the waiting game and the fear of it slipping away. Stay as positive as you can. Your day will come and it will a wonderful journey of discovery and of ooouus and ahhhhhs!

Ada, I am so glad that you posted this response from Martine!  I have been feeling discouraged lately thinking how it may be a few years still until I get the call.  I've even been considering ways I could scrape enough together for self pay route, but that would just be really unrealistic for me.  But if they are calling appointments from early 2009, I feel hopeful. I'm almost there...my consult was Sept 2009.  If I can figure my wait is another year, its manageable.
