Looking to have WLS, my story
Rockland clinic is a private clinic that is affiliated with sacre-coeur. They are well equiped and do vsg and lap band there also. The three bariatric surgeons of sacre-coeur, dr denis, dr atlas and dr garneau can do surgeries at the hospital and at the clinic. They have more surgery time at the clinic than at the hospital because they don't share the time with other surgeons... So the wait is shorter there. The ramq accepted to pay for the surgeries in this private clinic to shorten the waiting list. The three doctors do their consult also at rockland clinic. When you see the doc,he can decide if he wants to do your surgery at the hospital or the clinic. Since the clinic is not an hospital , even if it is really well equiped, the doctor operate low risk patients there... Ones with lower bmi, young and with no health problems. So i think you might be a good candidate. Dr Denis is at the same number than dr atlas, they have the same receptionnist. Hope that helps and don't be afraid to ask any questions, we are here to help.
By the way, you are a very nice looking guy!

Haha, why thankyou Diane :) I'm gonna just call as often as time allows in September to get this consult date. I read on another thread what you just said about shorter waiting times for people with less comorbidities and lower BMI, something about VSG becoming a day surgery. I did a lot of reading and discovery this week and I will update you on a new thread.
Hi Omar! and welcome to the family....I've been away for a couple of days and this board got suddenly active so please forgive me for my lateness. I want to start by commending you for taking the first step and publicly writing about your struggle. That is one difficult but liberating step. Our stories here are often similar as well as the shame that comes along with this struggle. The feelings of failure and self worthlessness still prevail and need working on despite all my wl so far so remember that after you have surgery. That being said, I am at a much happier place today than a year ago and have no regrets. I would have done it years ago but this surgery has only evolved recently. Younger people have better options today with wls as it was still very experimental when I began researching it twelve years ago. Long term studies are emerging and will give you great insight on what type of surgery you would want. I chose differently from most of my friends here on this board and I chose rny as it has a long term success rate of 80%. VSG was at 60% and for where I was at my age and medical issues that I have, I didn't want to risk gaining all the weight back and having to undergo another surgery (I guess looking back today, I think I didn't have the self confidence of being able to keep the weight off). I also wanted to be able to reverse this surgery if needed and rny gave me that option. If I was younger I would probably have chosen differently as malabsorption does have an impact on your body long term and I will have to deal with those issues one day. I am staying optimistic as I have been very compliant in my diet and vitamins. I have had no complications from this surgery. Like everyone else mentioned above, chose a surgery type for you but know that no matter what you chose this surgery is just a tool. A great tool! but still requires changes in lifestyle and eating. Good luck in your journey and keep posting.

The more i go through the site, the more I learn about what eating habits and life style are best suited to a certain type of surgery or another. So, Brenda, I definitely feel what you're saying more than I did when I first came to the site and posted about my issue. The reversability of a surgery was definitely a big factor, but now that im reading more I'm acknowledging its not THE ONLY factor. I'll keep you posted on what happens and thank you for your reply and kindness. Btw I'm very impressed with your weight loss, keep it up!!
