DS under RAMQ at Sacré-Coeur or elsewhere?

Hi,

I've been researching the surgeon in the public "filière" and so far, it seems that the DS procedure is only done at Laval Hospital, in Québec City. Do you know if there are surgeons who do it in one of the hospitals in Montréal? Yes, I know, I'm going to have to start calling each hospital and enquire but I figured I'd try a shorcut here, first

Thank you!

The DS can be done at Sacre Coeur with Dr. Gagner but I believe he reserves that for difficult cases, and he is not a participating surgeon and I read your post above so this response is useless - sorry.

          Thank you Cheri and Holly!
Think twice, cut once! I've had 3 surgeries now, RNY, VSG and DS .

Thanks anyway, Jennifer . Actually, Dr. Gagner would be my first choice if and when I decide to have WLS. However, I'm trying to explore the "free" options since I'm not sure if I'd be able to swing it financially.

Take care,

Monica

Do call Sacre Coeur becaue when I asked about Dr. G as a surgeon there they said, "do you mean dr. ____________, dr. _____________ or dr. ______________? I spoke to someone at the ombudsmans office and admissions.

Dr Garneau is the one who does most of DS at Sacré-Coeur, under the RAMQ. Dr Denis told me he could do the DS if I was not satisfied with my vsg, but he and dr Atlas do mostly the vsg.  And i am really satisfied with my vsg ! Good luck in your research!

Merci beaucoup, Diane, pour cette information! I guess now I just need to figure out if I'm willing/able to wait the 18 months for Sacré-Coeur or if I just go deeper into debt to self-pay!

18 months is way too long.  I think 4 months should be plenty of time.  I can't figure that out. They take people out of province and and make Quebec patients wait.  I have a hard time to figure that one out.

I have a con;sultation with Dr. Atlas on Aug 30th.  Do you have any idea how long the wait is.  Just looking for a few clues and something to go by.  It is months or years.

If your consult is for VSG it will be between 18-24 months unless you get "special treatment" for a problem you currently have.
