Lap-Band on RAMQ in Quebec: 2 Year Wait Time. Are There Any Doctors With Shorter Wait...
I've been calling all the bariatrics doctors in Quebec who do surgeries under RAMQ and it seems that there is a 1-3 year waiting list. Even Dr. Jette is not taking appointments anymore.
Does anyone know any new doctors who have a shorter wait time?
My work insurance probably covers medical devices, but that won't really help---even if it does cover the $4000 device, a private surgery would cost another $10,000.

Have you looked into the VSG? I know it's not reversible, which is a consideration for many (can't figure out WHY anyone would want to reverse their surgery, they'd likely gain their weight back, but I digress...) but it's covered 100% by RAMQ and has better overall results - more weight lost, kept off longer and not nearly the potential problems down the road!
There are doctors also in Mexico that perform the VSG and the band for not much more than $4K - something else to think about :)

I DID Make It - 135.4 8-1-10! Now working on post baby weight loss. (All WL post-op - preop got up to 220 from quitting smoking & last supper syndrome.) 5'2"
Well all of these procedures are covered by RAMQ. The only problem is that the waiting list is several years long. Do you know anyone in Quebec who can do it sooner?
I'm not really that informed about the difference between Lap-Band and VSG, but from what I read, the risks are slightly higher for VSG.
I checked into Mexico, the doctors who do it for $4K are less experienced and the best ones there do it for $11K. Go forbid something goes wrong- the hospital bills for Mexico could be prohibitive.
