Hi Everyone-

As some of you know from my past posts, I am coming to Montreal to have an RNY to DS revision with Dr. Gagner at Hopital Sacre Couer on 8/6.  I was hoping you might be able to help me with some questions that I can't seem to get clear answers to anywhere else.  Thanks, and as the title says if you're ever coming to Florida I'll happily return the favor!

Question 1: Hotel

I've made the determination to stay in Laval at the Quality Suties

Quality Suites (CN332)

2035 Auto. des Laurentides, Laval, QC, CA, H7S 1Z6

are any of you familiar with this hotel or the area, any reason you would not stay there?  Is the area safe? Clean?

Question 2: Transportaton

I can not for the life of me figure out the bus/metro maps.  Is there a metro station near this hotel and does it bring you to the hospital?  Also, I will be flying into Plattsburgh, NY and taking the Greyhound bus to Montreal, does anyone know where they drop you off and what is the best way to get to Laval from there?  I'll be coming in on the second and hope to spend the third and fourth seeing Quebec City.  What is the best way to get to Quebec City and do you have any sugeestions on places to stay or things to do while there?.........wow, that was a long question two.

Question 3:  Who decided to start the Italian festival the day I go in the hospital?

Question 4:  Anything else you think I should know?

If you've taken the time to read this far, Thank You......and Thank You for all of your help.

Hi, I live not too far from Laval. I never been to this hotel, but I pass in front often, it is quite new, and seem like a very nice place. It is near a big highway, and there is many stores near.

For the transportation, I'll have to come back to you about it, cause I don't take the bus or metro often and I'll have to check the maps.By car, your hotel is about 10-15 minutes max from the hospital.

The Greyhound terminus is in central Montreal, and there is a metro station there. You can go to Laval with the metro. I will check that too and come back maybe tomorrow or after tomorrow with the info.
The best way to go to Quebec for you will be greyhound bus I think. You can visit the old Quebec city, and there are many historical sites to visit there within walking distance. You can get info from many of the touristic kiosks in the city. I don't know about the hotels, haven't been there in a long time...

Hope this help, and I will come back with the info about bus-metro...

Good night!
Diane

Frank, Diane filled you in pretty much but I would think about taking the Via Rail Train to Québec City. It is reasonably priced and you get off directly downtown in old Québec. I live about an eight hour drive east from Québec city and visit my folks often. So when I want to visit my friends in Montreal I always take the train. Comfy and fast. Takes about two and half hours. You can take the train from downtown Montreal. Their website is www.viarail.ca/en .You can book online and they will recommend hotels. In downtown Québec City, hotels are not cheap but they are wonderful. From the ViaRail site you can link to hotels and I checked it out and the Hotel Clarendon is a good choice. I also stayed at hotel Place Royal (pricey though). Their website is http://www.hotelsjaro.com/palaceroyal/accomodations.aspx. Comfort Suites are also part of the Jaro Hotels. Bring good walking shoes as you will be walking on stoned roads. Hope this gives you some options! Have a great time and safe surgery.

PS. Quality Suites and Comfort Inn's are from the same family of hotels. They are clean and offer the good service. They also offer free continental breakfasts if my memory serves me well.  They are comparable to BestWesterns.

PSS. Promise this is the last one . Just reread your post and if you are arriving downtown Montreal on the 2nd and going to Québec City on the 3rd. I would stay in the hotel one night downtown as you will be spending way too much time traveling back and forth for just one evening. There are lot's of hotels downtown. Just a suggestion .

Thanks, I really appreciate all of this info, it is amazing how even with the internet it is really difficult to find this information.  So, when are you two coming to Florida?

Sorry , I wasn't able to come back sooner, was really busy at work this week!  I think Brenda had a great idea about the train, it is very comfy and fast... The nearest metro station Montmorency  is 1,5 miles from the hotel ( you can take the bus to get there from the hotel, walk 0,3 miles to corner Le Corbusier and Tessier, and take bus 39,direction Auteuil Nord to Montmorency station. From there, you can go to station Henri Bourassa. You'll have to take the bus to get to the hospital, bus  Gouin Ouest, no.69. or you can walk ( 3 miles).

The bus terminus in downtown Montreal is situated at the same place than Berri-Uqam Station. so you can take the orange line to Station Montmorency to get to your hotel, then bus line 76, Direction Ste-Dorothe, Ouest, and get out at the corner of Le Corbusier and Tessier ( stop number 41965). or walk 1,5 mile.

If you decided to go to Quebec by bus, you don't need to go back to downtown Montreal , you can take the Orleans  bus ( like greyhound) at the Cartier Terminus in laval ( metro station Cartier, near station Montmorency)
For the bus line number in laval, you should check at the Montmorency station, because the numbers I gave you may change depending on the time of the day, many buses lines pass near your hotel...
Here is the plan of the Montreal metro:

Hope this helps!

Bye
Diane
