Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur
Both Jennifer and I are in the same boat of needing a revision from RNY to DS. There are only a handful, maybe four, surgeons in North America with the skill and willingness to attempt and complete this surgery with a consistent safety record. Of these four, there is only one that I'm aware of that has demonstrated the ability to complete this revision laproscopically in a single stage even when the original procedure was done open. That Dr. is Michel Gagner and thankfully he recently returned to the North American continent in Montreal. So, all things considered, he is considered to be one of the very best laproscopic surgeons in the world. Hence the reason for my trip North. In case you or anybody you know are in the same boat, the other surgeons are Dr. David Greenbaum in Willingboro, NJ...good rep but backed up for rny to DS revisions until Feb of next year and only does the revisions open. Dr. Kesishian in LA area of California, excellent reputation, but also only does the revisions open and charges a $4,000 program fee on top of the surgical cost even if it is covered by insurance. Dr. Rabkin in San Francisco who is not in network for any insurance company for this procedure and charges an upfront $8,000 deposit and then will wait to see what your insurance may reimburse if you have out of network benefits. Dr. Pomp in NYC who worked under Dr. Gagner at Weil Cornell and is a competent surgeons but requires that revision be approached in two stages...........which leads us back to Dr. Michel Gagner.
Hi guys and welcome to the board. I had my surgery done in Montreal but not in that hospital so can't help you out. I do have some suggestions for sightseeing in the beautiful city of Montreal. The old port has a beautiful old Québec feel to it if you can't get to visit Québec city itself. Not as beautiful as old Québec city but still quaint and charming in its own right. The biodome if you love nature stuff, Cresent street bars for that night on the town feel with jazz bars to rock bands and downtown cafés (coffee shops and outdoors restaurants) are a must to experience. I would try and visit a website for Montreal tourism and you'll get alot of great suggestions.
I often stay at the Dorval Bestwestern and it is clean, hospitable, has a great restaurant and a shuttle bus to the airport. I also think they have a free night offer if you stay so many days.
As for tolls we don't have them anymore but they do get us with taxes....so we still end up paying for them one way or another. Québec has one of the most progressive publicly funded social network and healthcare but we are one of the most taxed citizens in the world! In Montreal you will encounter one of the most bilingual and multicultural city but as you go eastward towards Québec city and the regions most people speak french.
I wish you both a safe trip and surgery and do keep us posted.
