Anyone here from Gatineau???
If you are ready Doris what is holding you back to get a consult? It took me 3 months before getting a consult. My journey started on January 14th 2009 so it's been a while. Start calling places. Don't just chose a surgery because of the wait time. Chose a surgery that fits your needs and go from there. Everyone is different but you have to make that call if you want to get on a list one day.
Doris, I believe they had Dr. Henri Atlas for their surgery but they were lucky to get it ahead of time. Everyone wants their surgery now but people have to wait the list unless they want to pay out of their pockets. You may want to ask your family Dr. to rush the surgery but if you don't fit the criteria they won't rush you.
Hi there,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Just getting caught up... I had the surgery and am recovering slowly. I managed to tear a few stitches so it's been a bit uncomfortable!
I've been trying to read through all of the threads of messages here. I know Derek seems to be pretty well plugged in. So He's probably answered most of our questions. I had tried to contat Dr. Atlas and never received any responses to my messages - that let's me think he's pretty busy! Dr. Christou's office had given me his name along with a few others including my surgeon. He wrote back right away that the waiting period was between 4 - 10 months. It ended up being 9 months - so he was pretty bang on.
I had the lap band - and am so thankful that RAMQ covers it 100%. It was what I wanted all along. It's the least invasive of the procedures which was comforting to me. Making the decision on the type of surgery to have his very personal - you need to determine what's best with your surgeon.
I don't want to discourage you, but I read somewhere that they only do surgeries on people up to the age of 65. That could be US info and not Canadian though. So, keep trying. I was told to knock on a lot of doors - it paid off for me and it will for you too!
Best of luck! August will be here before you know it!

Hi Derek,
Yes... I made it through the tough part. Today is my first day back at work. I'm finding it challenging getting back in to the groove... but that's normal after being off for awhile...
I've been feeling uncomfortable for the last few days. I'm bloated and full of gas. Trying to figure out what it is that I'm eating that isn't agreeing with me... probably the extra milk I have to use when preparing foods. So far I haven't had any success with solid foods - still getting by on the soft stuff. My weight loss has virtually stopped and I'm feeling frustrated... ugh... maybe tomorrow the scales will move in the right direction again!
I doubt I'll be going back to the support group. It was a bit awkward. I may call the Civic hospital to find out when they have their groups - It would be much easier for me to express myself in English. I'll let you know if I find out when/where...
Take care... J
