Protein ice cream
Today I try a protein ice cream recipe. I did a raspberry one. Very good, more like sherbet than ice cream, but nice enough to eat on a hot day...I found this basi**** cream recipe on
http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ You can vary the flavour according to taste. But you need a good tasting protein powder, because it tastes in the final product! I have a cuisinart ice cream maker, but you can buy some small one at walmart I think.
1 cup of vanilla soy milk or milk ( I used soy milk)
2 scoops of protein powder ( I used raspberry flavour)
2 tablespoons of Da Vinci sugar free syrup ( I used raspberry flavour)
some fresh raspberries ( or other fruit)
Mix together the milk, the powder and the syrup. Put it to cool in the fridge. When it is cool, put in the ice cream maker. Add fruit when it is almost done.
Keep it in a plastic container in the freezer.
It yields around 2 cups
For 1/2 cup:
cal: 87
prot: 12 g
fat 1,75 g
carbs:6 g
Will try other flavours, like coffee or caramel, will keep you posted!

I have made it several times (last summer, none yet this year). I have found that unflavored protein powder (I use IsoMax I think it is - got it at GNC) with strong-ish flavored ingredients, that the protein taste is greatly diminished. I bought a bunch of syrups and extracts to make it with, and I used Calorie Countdown milk (low carb) which I can't get anymore :( I keep debating about buying the frother that she suggests.
I ended up with the same consistency... a little too soft when it's ready to be put in the freezer but hard and more crunchy than smooth when it's hardened. The fat content I believe has everything to do with it. More fat=creamier.

You guys are making me drool...Diane, I almost bought an ice cream maker and hesitated. Do you like the cuisinart brand? I also wanted to make sorbet but I am not sure I will add protein to mine. i prefer to drink a shake and then have a small portion of frozen treat. I tried all sorts of stuff with added protein and it isn't my thing. I will bookmark the recipe's though. Thanks for your posts.
