Hi,
I was wondering what the pain going accross my stomach just below the chest is.
I get it when I eat, is that the your full feeling?

Do you just stop eating just before that happens? But to be able to get in the amounts they recommend should I stop then wait a bit and finish my meal?

Thanks
Cindy

When I am full, I don't have pain, usually I burp a lot, so I know it is enough. When I have pain, usually it is because I ate too fast or didn't chew enough, or I ate too much.  It is not the same for everyone. You will learn to recognize your own feeling. I try to stop before I feel pain. Usually, I stop when I feel the burps, but if I see that I didn't eat very much, maybe I ate too fast, so I wait a little bit, like 10 min. and try to eat again. But don't force to finish your meal if you feel you are full, it is better to eat more often, but not too much at a time, to prevent the stretching of the stomach.

I am not sure if my situation applies as we don't have the same type of surgery but I think in the beginning phases it must be the same process as both our surgeries have a smaller pouch. I would agree with Diane. I think maybe it is because you are either eating too fast or too much in your spoonful (at a time). I recall having that type of pain every so often in the beginning. When I get full I tend to stop being able to swallow and the food starts getting stuck in the esophogus. I stop eating and then the 'fullness' feeling sets in with a bit of nausea to boot. Not always pleasant. It is a trial and error thing Cindy. You'll get to know your own personal queues. Just stay alert to constant pain as it may be something that needs medical attention. Keep us posted if anything keeps up.
