Hi all,
I know I'm still in soft food stage, but I was wondering if anyone has any suggestestions for going to the movies.
I know I can't have popcorn, but is there any snack you eat or think I can eat?

Thanks
Cindy

Do you mean snacks at the movies? I don't think so Cindy. Sorry. Maybe sugarfree gum and water

At that stage, I had difficulty eating anything, but I was able to eat some goldfish crackers... may be a good snack...with water ...and well chewed!
Have a good movie!

Thanks for the tips. Is gum ok to have? Not just at my stage but in general with the sleeve?

For the gum I asked the question on vsg board and some doctors say no some yes... I don't chew gum because I took one and swallowed it by mistake and I was so afraid it could get stuck in my stomach !!! And I think we swallow air when we chew gum . So not a good idea for the vsg in the beginning. Later? I don't know...

Thanks Diane. I worry about the same thing, what happens if I swallow it!
I wish we got better information from the doctors as to what can and can't be eaten.
Or the amount of calories, protein, fat we are supposed to eat. I find on the VSG board you get alot of different recommendations, for me it's hard to know what to do.
I guess at my appointment I can ask more questions.

Thanks again

Hi Cindy!

Have you met with the nutritionist yet? I had my first meeting yesterday, and it was fantastic! I had no idea beforehand how many calories/proteins/carbs/fats I was supposed to be aiming for, and she gave me the guidelines. We also went through the post-op diet, and she cleared up a lot of things for me. I'm thrilled to hear that I can move along through the stages (liquid/semi-liquid/mushies/regular food) as soon as I can tolerate it. She told me the goal was to get us eating as regularly as possible as soon as possible.
We had different surgeries, so I'm sure it's different, but hopefully when you meet with the nutritionist you'll come away feeling much better informed! I certainly did.

Hi Liane,
I don't have an appointment until August with the nutritionist. :(
I'm so glad you got some good information and can move on to some solids soon. That's fantastic !!

August is a long way away! Wonder if it would be worth a quick call to your surgeon's office just to get some broad guidelines to be refined when you meet the nut? I know that I had absolutely NO idea what I should be aiming for until I saw her.

I know that everyone is different, but my guidelines are try to average 1600 calories a day, not going below 1100. 15g of protein for every "meal" (3x a day) and 7g of protein for every snack (3x a day). I can't recall the carb/fat goals, but I have them written down at home.

1600 calories is a little high in my opinion. I was under the impression bandsters weren't to go over 1200 calories a day. You may want to check that out on the Lap Band forum. And 45g of protein seems a bit low too. Weird.
