Band in Montreal ?

Hi everybody,

I am really impressed with this board! Everybody is so nice and helpful! I was wondering if anyone got banded in Mtl the RAMQ way. How long was the wait and which doctors have you seen/recommend.

I don't have a lapband, but if you speak french, there is a great forum of Quebec bandsters on yahoo groups, I think it is Soutien_lapband qc. Maybe you can find more answers there. I know Dr Jetté at Pierre-Boucher does many lapbands and the waiting time is not so long I think... Good luck in your research!

Hi Ana!

I got banded in Quebec, but opted out of the RAMQ way. My doctor, Henri Atlas, does both RAMQ and private. When I met with him in November of 2009, he said that my wait time on RAMQ would be approximately 2-3 years. It seems like there are differences in the waiting list depending on your personal medical status.

No problem!
It was 17K, plus $480 for the Optifast. I saw him in November, called him with the decision to go the private route in late January, and they offered me a spot March 5th (but I couldn't take it).

Any chance of this being deductable on the income tax?

Apparently not ...... unfortunately. Do you have private medical insurance? I am waiting to find out how much they will cover. The cost of the drugs (anaesthesia was $850), labs ($450) and maybe a portion of the band itself will be covered, but hoping to hear that more of it will be!

My girlfriend told me that a colleague of hers got banded in Quebec city and the wait time was under 1 year. I posted a link about last year with the weight time and what doctors do what surgeries here in Quebec. Let me look into that and get back to you.
