Got a call today from the hospital. I need to see the lung specialist before my surgery.  He has to examine me and authorize my surgery.

I don`t know why

Any of you had to do this?

I didn't have to go because I have sleep apnea and I already had an exam with my specialist. I think they always ask to see a lung specialist to see if you have sleep apnea or another problem that can cause complications during surgery...

The specialist that I had seen was an "internist" and he did lung xray and test de fonction respiratoire with the inhalotherpiste and Diane is right. They need to make sure you have no issues prior to surgery.

Hi!

I think lung exam is mandatory (for those who don't have a sleep apnea diagnosis already) because of anesthesia during surgery. The anesthetist will want to avoid any serious risk of respiratory failure during the procedure...and it's a good thing!
