Day 4 of pre-op liquid diet

Hey everyone... just thought I'd check in.

Today is day 4 of my liquid pre-op diet. I am on 4 Optifast shakes a day, with 2 servings of vegetables. So far, so good... it's odd, although I have moments where I feel hungry, I seem to have somehow managed to just switch off the idea of "real" food. A friend of mine asked me today "have you been tempted to cheat?" I was honestly shocked - it was like the *idea* of cheating never even occurred to me! We'll see if I'm singing that same song on Day 14 :)
I find myself being hungry most when I'm cooking dinner for my husband... the smells...mmmm!

I told myself that I wasn't going to weigh myself more than once a week, but I couldn't help but get on the scale this morning. 5lbs down. Do you think I should restrict weighing myself to once a week? I have read where some people weigh themselves daily ... I'm really not sure what the "right" answer is.

The Magic Bullet has turned out to be a Godsend ... I have it at work. I picked up a Betty Crocker hand blender to have at home, and I have to say it totally sucks! I think I'll splurge and get another Magic Bullet. I'm on this thing for another 20 days, so I think it's worth it.

Well... that's my news :) Hope everyone is having a great week!

Hi Liane!

I'm glad to learn that your diet is going so well!

I don't think there's a golden rule for weighing frequency. I usually don't weigh myself more than a couple times a week. Since the weight loss is faster at the beginning of a diet than at a latter phase, I think that weighing everyday can become a surefire way  to be deceived because as diet progresses daily weight fluctuations diminish and one may encounter small daily weight  augmentations along the way...

Hang on, it's worth it!

Thanks, I think you're right - I can see myself getting obsessed by the scale pretty easily! Didn't weigh myself this morning, and think I'll wait til Monday :)

Hi,

I know how you feel.  I have been on the shakes for 10 days.

Last week, I was checking my weight every day. I lost 20 pounds the first week. This week, I am waiting to verify because I know it will go down slower.

10 days - how are you holding up?
Wow, 20lbs.. .that's awesome! How do you feel? I'm finding I have a little more energy than I used to - I think it's probably the much higher protein intake than I used to have.

Glad to see you are doing well... You seem well-minded, great for you! I was so afraid that my liver didn't shrink enough for surgery, that I wasn't tempted to cheat. Except a few bites of a subway sub...

I think it is better to weight once a week, to see real change and not be desappointed... However, I am not able to do this... I weight everyday, but I try not to panic if I gain 0,5 lbs... I found it makes me more accountable. I weight every morning, at first  I was so anxious of weightin that I wake up early to get on the scale!!!  Now, it is less exciting...LOL

I wanted to send you some positive thoughts....I can so relate to what you wrote about being in the right frame of mind. I never really contemplated cheating as I didn't want to sabotage my surgery. My mindset was solid and I think it helped me through some tough days where people were eating left and right everywhere. You are doing awesome and know that it is so worth every sacrafice. As for the weighing question well I am one who likes to weigh herself only once a week. I did however on a couple of times weigh myself midweek as I had felt I had lost weigh and was curious...I think everyone has their own take on that question and see how it goes postop .
