VSG Complications
Hi Amy and welcome to the board! I had my VSG in february 2010 and I am very satisfied. No complaints at all... I just had a minor complication at the beginning, I had a yeast infection in my esophagus, so I had pain when I drank or ate for the first three weeks, but after treatment, that went away... I love that I can eat what I want, but in very small quantities, so I have to choose wisely, to get all my proteins and vitamins. But I am a little afraid that it may be possible to regain the weight if I don't make the right choices, ice cream, chips and other sweets can go down pretty easy, with not so much restriction... But with any surgery, you have to make a commitment to life changes... I also love the fact that I don't have malabsorption, so less vit problems, as I am not very steady on the vits... And if the weight loss stops or is insufficient, this surgery can be completed in DS or RNY...
About the family, they were a little unsure at first, they feared the surgery, that something may happen to me... But it was MY decision, I did it for ME, because I couldn't live anymore with that body, pain in the knees, etc... And they accepted that. And now, they are so happy for me, that even my husband started considering surgery for himself!
I knew that I had no other choices, I wasn't able to walk without a cane, I had three BP pills, sleep apnea, etc... Now my life has changed, I can now walk 30 min without pain, I have only one HBP pill now and my sleep apnea is better. I feel younger and the only regret I have is not having done it sooner!
Good luck in your reflexions...
Diane
