Guys I'll be honest, I don't think that this surgery should be done as outpatient, you need the IV, the fluids, the good painkillers. I've had a rough week recovering at home. Nausea, vomiting (OUCH), discomfort, C02 pain.

But today I feel great !!! Finally after reading how one day after surgery you just wake up feeling good and normal I finally have mine!! YAY! I am so sorry I haven't been online much but I want to thank you all for your kind words and support. Diane it has been amazing having you to compare notes with and I am so happy that you're adjusting so quickly. Brenda your own experience right now is my best resource in how the next few weeks will unfold so I appreciate it (also will I ever poop again?)

Mostly though Derek I think you deserve huge kudos for getting this Quebec forum really moving again after a long while. It is essential to have a support network and your constant posting and encouragement have really brought the Quebec Forum to life...just in time for you upcoming surgery I hope

Glad that you are feeling better Kass!
Have you begun full liquids yet?
Friday and saturday all was great, i was able to drink at least 1 liter of liquid... But today I don't feel very well I have constant heartburn and pain in the chest irradiating in my back when I sip. I have my one week appointment with the doctor tomorrow at the hospital hope he can help because I was only able to drink 200 ml of water today...
Do you have an appointment too?
Have a nice sunday y'all!!

Glad to see you posting Kass and Diane,  I remember it took me exactly nine days to feel better after surgery.  I had such a tough time getting anything down. Felt like I was trying to squeeze extra water in an already full glass.  So uncomfortable feeling.  I was lucky though I never vomitted to this day.  My best advice is to listen to your body.  Forget  the guidelines for now.  Look at them and try and follow them but if you can't then listen to your body.

As for pooping..................well it will be a whole new world from this point on. You will have a bm again once you get enough protein in but right now your pretty much on liquids so don't expect much to happen.  I remember having a bm in the first week and then one more in the second week and then I made sure I had one every three days or so.  According to the surgeon's office and the literature on WLS we are supposed to have one once a day.  I am not there yet.  I was a daily doer in my pre WLS life and it was easy also. Now I struggle with it.  I now take a stool softener everyday to help me along.  I just cannot get enough fiber in my food intake and my water intake is still a struggle.  I get only about one litre a day. (I know I know I am still working on that goal).  As for your BM it is the topic of conversion for newbies.  Check out the other boards as well cuz maybe it is different for VSG'ers.  From my memory I think though it pretty is the same for everyone early out.

How are you gals doing with protein intake?  Keep us posted :)

Hi gang! I saw Dr Garneau for a 1 week check up today...OMG, this doc looks good... and is very nice too.. They removed my staples today. He said that during the surgery, they put many tubes in the throat and the esophagus, so it was the reason that I have so much pain in the chest  and back when I drink. He said that maybe they made a little lesion in it with the tube and it should be ok in a week. He gave me pantoloc to take two times a day ( acid reducer). I am doing fine otherwise, no pain in the belly, but many gases ( up and down !) I still have pain when I drink, so I take pops and jello. I tried baby cereals and yop yesterday, but that cannot pass. I thought that liquids will pass ok, but I am surprised that even an infime difference in the size of the sip or the thickness of the liquid makes an HUGE difference.

Yesterday I manage to take around 800 ml of liquids. As for the proteines, I put beneprotein in my jello and a bullet for 5 pops, so I get aroud 50 g yesterday ( the bullet helped a lot with 42 g)

Sorry Ada and Derek, couldn't ask Dr  Garneau for you, he is not the one who makes the lists... but you are lucky to have such a nice guy for Dr...

Have a nice monday!

Diane,
I actually liked the fact that my Doctor was younger. I don't know why but I feel very comfortable with the fact that he will be doing my surgery. I know you girls got some great surgeons too but I always tend to give the younger ones the chance to prove themselves. I think I'll love him more the day he gets me sleeved. :D

Diane you'll see a big difference in gulping in about ten days.  Keep your liquids clear cuz it does make a difference.  For me it did anyway! Take care both of you.

So everything is ok eh Diane, maybe you could tell me more about the first apt my is in 2 weeks-- did you ask questions about the surgery like the size of your stomach, your bougie size, did he weigh you, etc?

That's a little rough about the swallowing but girl you are getting SO much more protein in then I am you should be feeling like a million bucks!! I can't stand the beneprotein and now that I can swallow more I"m trying to get all my protein from yogurt (12 g/ 1/2 cup). I might go ahead and pick up some bullets though because I really can't pass up 42 g of protein in only 3 oz of liquid that's amazing!

Every day I feel a little more normal which is nice, although I'll true confess, my family are all big eaters and its starting to annoy me! I know shame, but since I dont' have an appetite and am eating such small amounts it bothers me how often and how much they eat...terrible, Brenda did you experience this at all?

Yeah the bullets are great for proteins, but they are so sweet ( with splenda) that I have to dilute them to avoid nausea, so I will take more than 3 onces... but anyway, the bullets sure helps get the protein in the first days...I tryed protein shakes, but it makes me nauseous... I am tired of all those sweet tastes since the optifast. Chicken broth or beef consome helped.

As for the family eating, I smell what they eat, it smells good but I am not hungry for that ( and I know I could not eat it). But I look at what they eat and I realize how much it is and that I was eating like this too??? No wonder I am obese, and they are too... I cannot wait to be in better shape to make the supper... My 3 POOR guys will notice some changes...

I forgot to answer you about the 2 weeks appointment ( that I had at 1 week!) The doctor just looked at me ask how I was feeling and said the nurse will remove the staples. But it was not my surgeon, so I didn't ask too many questions. He didn't weight me, didn't examine ( just check the incision) and they didn't even take my BP... I've been there 10 minutes ( with 1 1/2 hour waiting) but that was at the extern clinic at the hospital, maybe it's not the same at Rockland MD.

Thanks Kass but if it wasn't for you girls having surgery, I would be here talking to Brenda (no offence) and wishing some people would come out of the woods. I'm pretty sure we have some lurkers reading the posts but people are too shy to introduce themselves.
