For my newbie friends!

breakfast: protein shake, 1/4cup pure oj with 3/4cup water and one scoop of soya protein

I can't stand the sweetened whey stuff since Optifast! My cupboard is still full of them. Lesson to newbies, don't buy in advance as your tastebuds change!

snack, sugar free and fat free yogurt single serving

lunch- 2oz of protein, salad greens, tomatoe
I have just started adding a little bit of complexe carbs once in awhile(I use reduce fat mayo and mustard when I have a make shift sandwhich which consist of 3/4 of one half slice of burrito wrap or bagel)

I often eat the 85g can of flavored tuna on melba toast rounds

snack rarely in the afternoon. sometimes take a V-8 one cup

supper 2oz-3oz of protein (chicken, veal, pork, shellfish, fish, beef) with veggie (usually 3tbsp) and salad greens.

snack  yogurt sf ff or ten pecans, cheese, etc.

before bed protein drink

That is what works best for me.  I am still struggling getting all my solid food in.  Somedays it is all good and others well I struggle and have more protein shakes.  I do make a solid effort to get as much food as I can but I do stop as soon as I feel full.   and believe me you'll know.  I stays stuck in the bottom of my throat!

Remember it is different for everyone. My calories are about 800-900 a day. Very little carbs for now. Too filling.

Til next time, keep smiling :)

After my nearly 2 weeks of protein shakes this seems like a feast!!! Particularly liked your continued use of protein shakes to get the protein and fluid in. May I ask which protein powder you invested in? I am opting for something with no flavour that blends well, also why did you go the soy route? I'm going to poke around the Health Food store this weekend and see what I can pick up but would love suggestions!

Thanks Brenda, this is interesting to know what we will be able to eat... There's a life after the shakes LOL

Maybe we can do a " what are you eating today".... When we will be able to eat!

The thing I am trying to figure out is how to deal with family supper... I don't want to eat my littles things and having to do another meal for the family. I know it will be like that in the beginning, but I hope after I can make a family meal, and eat a small part of it.

I looked at your history... we are almost the same age ( i am 44) and weighted almost the same... How tall are you?  I am 5' 7". I can really relate to your AHA moment in the carroussel...  And I also love dogs...

Congratulation on your weight loss, you are doing very well  !!

((hugs))

Thanks for starting this Branda. This will be awesome for any post-op. I can't wait to be 4 months out. I'd love to compare what I'll be eating then. Those amounts look small though. I know I won't be able to eat much but that looks like so little protein. I'd love to have a feeling of being full. I don't think I've ever felt the feeling.

Diane, the what are you eating today thread would be a good start to get this board going. I could start it now actually but then I would make you girls drool because you're having your shakes. But I think I should start it anyways to show what I was eating before surgery. It could be interesting to look back on it.

The amounts are small however, I am always full.  Some people on the Ontario board eat a bit more than me and others about the same.  Trust me folks, it looks small pre op but it is really filling and I get about 50g of protein in with food and that is why I still need to supplement with the shakes.

I was eating way less than that the first month.  They food really started going down ok after three months.  I know that I had the RNY procedure but a friend of mine on the Ont board had the VSG and her meal plan really looks about the same so I figure you'll probably experience the same as I post op.

Diane,   you'll be able to cook one meal for the family. In the beginning I cooked puree foods and froze them in 3/4 cup servings. I used to eat alot of squash as it pureed well and used to add lentils and other veggies in.  Today, I will often eat the same as my husband just minus the rice, potatoes, etc (carbs) and replace it with a toss salad.  I just weigh my protein and add a veggie.  In the beginning you need to overcook the veggies to digest well but I now can eat some semi cook and some raw veggies (green, yellow, red peppers, mushrooms, asperagus, tomatoe, cucumber, salad greens, spinach)

Yayawhat, my cupboard was stocked with protein drinks, bullets and powdered whey but after surgery I couldn't stomach them. Made me very very nauseated. So I started searching the net for an alternative and found GENISOY natural soy protein. I love the stuff but it is very cereal like tasting. I like soy so it was a great choice for me. It gives me 25g of protein with only one cup of liquid and I can mix it up with pure diluted juice.  I also become milk intolerant after surgery. Gives me stomach pains and gas, like I was lactose intolerant.  Bought lactose intolerant milk but I still cannot digest it. I have no problem with hard cheese or yogurt. Seems to be a side effect for some post op.  I was a huge milk drinker preop and had to find something to replace it so the soy protein offered me that opportunity with juice.  I just make sure I keep an eye on the sugar content per serving.  I have never dumped so far. So wait until you are post op to taste and buy you protein as your taste buds do change.
