The optifast diet...
They just called, I have to be there 730 on Monday morning I will keep everyone posted I promise as soon as I'm capable, and Diane I will spare you any graphic painful details because I really want us to be positive despite the challenges. Maybe 4 months out like Brenda we can start to swap horror stories!I effing HATE the optifast vanilla shake now, great suggestion about the syrups, take her advice preopsters!
First of all I want to say...Diane you look fabulous with your new hair cut. It suits you alot!! Secondly I want to thank you soooo much for all the info you posted on the syrops and proteins. I really appreciate you taking the time to write it down for us.
I've been searching for the famous "Fage"Total 0% Greek Yogurt (pronounced Fa-yeh) for a very long time. Everyone on the American wls boards rave about it. It's suppose to be amazing. Well...I asked all my Greek friends (since it's a Greek yogurt), my boss's husband, who is the dairy manager at Mourelatos, and anybody else I could think of. But alas nobody could find it. I did find info on-line that some people had bought it at a specialty food store in Cote St. Luc (Caldwell Groceries) Having once lived in CSL I knew the store's location. I had a co-worker who lives near there see if they had any and...they did... so today at work we had a Fage tasting party...lol
Considering that it was "plain" and had no fruit or honey it was pretty good. It is thick in consistency almost like cream cheese and tangy. I brought what was left home so my daughter can taste some and am going to try it with a bit of honey and fruit. The syrop Diane was talking about would go perfect with it. What is so good about this yogurt is that it's 0% fat but 20gm of protein in a 6oz cup. The cup seems enough for 2 times. The price is not cheap...3.99$
I'm glad I tried it and that same friend who went to buy it for me said that she goes every few weeks to Plattsburgh to do her groceries and she would see if it's cheaper there and buy some for me.
Hope you ladies are not too nervous...you'll be in our prayers and keep us posted as much as you can.
BTW what part of quebec do you ladies live...do you need to travel far like Derek?
Yaya and Diane...good luck and keep us posted.
Oh ya almost forgot...Derek...I'm in the same dilemma as you but in my case my scale doesn't go over 250lbs and I don't feel like spending money at this point. If I wasn't so damn shy...I would go into our warehouse at work and jump up on the scale there. We need to weigh all that leaves so the scale goes pretty high. When you go see Martine at the hospital you can ask her. They must have a scale in the bariatric section of the hospital. I was kinda hoping Dr.Garneau would weigh me at the consult but he didn't.

Derek: I lost 11 pounds in 11 days with optifast, I had lost 7 pounds since Christmas... But when we see the scale go down, it helps to stick to optifast.LOL
I didn't take pictures before optifast... but today, I took my official pre-op picture!
Yaya, so it's official, you got the confirmation call!
Please keep us posted, I won't back up anyways LOL
Ada Thanks for the compliment, I love my new hair ! I've read about that yogurt, but it's too difficult to find...and expensive! Please let me know if your friend find it in Plattsburgh, and the price, we sometime go there.
I live in Terrebonne north of Montreal, it takes me 20 minutes to go to Sacré-Coeur.
Good night friends!

Good night friends!
Just wanted to add some of my protein experience. The bullets are great, especially the blue rasperry and yes they taste like liquid jello. I have never been able to drink them down straight.............way tooooo sweet for me. But loved them diluted. Haven't been able to have them post op though. The Syntrac Nectar proteins are also good. I had to order mine online as I live in the boonies............tip of the the St. Lawrence seaway and Altlantic ocean in case no one here knows where Gaspé is. It is a 900km drive east from Montreal :) ! I too have enjoyed the DaVinci syrups. The caramel is to die for and I also bought strawberry. I do add them to the yogurt and milk as well as coffee for a nice change. The lowcarbgrocery now offers free shipping when you buy a certain amount of foods. I have also bought almond flour and soya flour and whole grain flour for baking. I haven't used them yet but I'll be ready when the time comes. I have also enjoyed the hot chocolate protein drink from Protidiet and Bariwise.

I am having VSG on 3/23 and I am on day 2 of the Optifast. I am soooo hungry and I have 41 more days to go as my doc requires that I am to be on it until 2 days before surgery and I am allowed no other food except sugar free jello, popcycles, and fruit pops...I really hope this gets better. I am trying to keep my eye on the prize (surgery) but my civian doctor is shocked that I am suppose to be on this diet for so long. I did buy a few of the sugar free flavored syrups which kinda helps with the taste but............
I just needed to vent this....it's going to be a long road. I already told my husband and teenagers that they are on their own for food.

PSW 268 and Height is 5'10, SW was 241.6, GW is 170, CW is 160
Don't worry, the first 2-4 days are the worst, after you won't be as hungry ... It's worth it, like you said keep your eyes on the prize, the surgery and your weight loss... Take it one day at a time. I don't know if you noticed, but this post is over 1 year old, I had my vsg feb 2 2010 , I lost 178 lbs, now weight 142 lbs which is a normal bmi for my height 5'7" My life has changed completely , I am so happy! You need to do the optifast in order to have a safe surgery, you can do it!!
Good luck!
Diane
Good luck!
