I hate when doctors do that.  February is a whopping 5 days away, why can't they do it now?!?  Ugh, fingers crossed for you, you should call 1st thing Monday morning :)

I know it's a pain but hey, it's not like I called on January 1st and they told me to wait a full month. I'm actually going to try and call first thing on Sunday morning. LOL They'll probably be closed but I'll give it a try then I'll call back on Monday morning. My fingers are crossed.

The only thing is, now I'm uncertain between the VSG and DS. :S

What to do, what to do?

True, at least that :)  You sound like a smartass - I'd do the exact same thing! lol

Do a ton of research, and try and figure out (if you don't already know) what kind of eater are you?  i.e. What got you fat in the first place?  For some it's insatiable hunger, others it's constant grazing, others it's just bad choices.  Also, while I think the DS is a great surgery, please really look into the potential side effects - your digestive system will never be the same.  You will also be on a vitamin regime for the rest of your life, and you can't mess around with it, you have to seriously commit to taking all your required supplements EVERY day, multiple times a day.  But the reward is great weight loss.

For me, I'm no delicate flower and have always been gassy, I didn't need to add to that, and I'm the most absent minded person ever.  I'm taking vitamins in advance of my surgery, to try and prevent hair loss, but I can take them whenever and I won't get seriously ill if I forget for a day or 2.  I also thought it was overkill for me, I float around a BMI of 37-40 (at 5'2" a few pounds make a huge difference).  One final thought for why I didn't get DS - I figure eating high fat/high cal food is part of what got me here in the first place, and if I'm going to the extent of getting WLS, I want to change my eating habits.  And frankly, after doing a lot of reading on here, those that really commit to the VSG do really well, and MANY surpass 100% EWL - without rerouting your intestines.  That's also always an option down the road, although some say your weight loss won't be as good if you revise to DS at a later date.

YMMV of course - and don't let anyone sway you.  Do tons of reading on here and other sites.  I wish you the best of luck with your decision!

Hi,
you don't seem to have consider the Lap-Band for your obesity surgery, is there a special reason? Do you know about the Band?  If you do know about the band and aren't interesseted never mind. But if you would like to get some info and meet with a surgeon (for free) you may want to call at spa diva medical in downtown montreal at  514 905-1234.
Dr Miller is an excellent surgeon and will give you all the information you need to make the best decision for YOU!
Hope this help

Hi Evelyn,
I did consider al WLS options and for me the band didn't cut it. I have been reading non stop for the past month or so and have decided that the DS surgery was best for me. Now, there aren't too many surgeons here in Quebec who do the surgery but I will keep searching. I called Hopital Sacré-Coeur and they told me to call back in 2 weeks. I'm getting fed up with them but the lack of Hospitals will probably force me to call them back. Hopefully the surgeons are nicer than the secretary.

I just jumped in to this site.  I live in Maryland near Annapolis, and one of our great concerns down here is the congress trying to push through a national health care system.  I've noticed a long wait time for your appts and surgeries.  Many of us look at the Canada model as not what we want.  Your thoughts
