Hi Everyone,

I just want to know if anyone has Dr. Atlas and is on the waiting list or just got operated. I want to know where they reached in their waiting list. I called a few minutes ago and the secretary said that she thinks it's about 2-3 years. I want to see because now I am getting really upset. When I went to see him in May, I was told Fall 2008, then I was told 1 year, that brings me to spring 2009, but now I don't know anymore and I am getting pi**ed off and I want to know once and for all. I left an email to the Dr. and will see what he repplies. To top it all, someone here said that they were told 5 years.

Oh Sylvie, while I'm glad you called, and now you know, that so SUCKS!  I've heard there are docs in Drummondville/Sherbrooke that might have a shorter waiting list.  You know I don't have a better answer for you, I wish I did :(  Have you tried posting to the OSSG QC list to see what they said?  I think I read the one answering the phone is a mat leave replacement, maybe she was just wrong! :)  At least I hope so for you.  Message me if you want to talk :)

Hugs,

T :)

Hi,

At the risk of sounding real dumb........I tried the ossg qc list and cannot come up with anything except the delays for hip, knee, etc... surgery. Maybe you could give me a step by step instruction list and I could try again to see if I come up with anything.

Thanks and for the record: IT DOES SUCKS!!!!

Take care!

Hmm, well, I started by doing a search with just Atlas, that popped up a bunch of posts that talked about people who'd had surgery, questions about the liquid diet and the recent cancellations.  If I were you, I'd just post a question, like if the people who were cancelled in the fall have new dates (or whatever else you want to ask).  Not sure if that helps or what you were looking for... if not, PM me :)

Hi everyone,
thought you should know that the waiting list is a lot shorter in Ste-Croix hospital in Drummundville. Of course it depends of your actual weight and co-morbidities but it could go a lot faster if you gave them a call.
To meet with the surgeon you can call 819- 472-4823. Dr Miller, Dr Lalancette and Dr Laplante are doing a great job.

If you are interested in going the private way, may I mentionned Spa Diva medical in downtown montreal. The consultation is free with the surgeon. The wainting list is between 4-6 weeks!!
Of course RAMQ doesn't cover the cost.

Hope this help

Hi everyone,

I'm on the waiting list with Dr. Atlas and I went for my first consultation with him on December 17th 2008.  He told me the waiting list was 16 to 18 months.  Hope he didn't get my hopes up for nothing...  I've been wanting for weight loss surgery for a couple of years but had to wait because I was breastfeeding my kids.  Now, I'm ready for my VGS...  A year and 1/2 is a long enough wait...

Hi Sylvie!
Well.. that sucks big time.
I called Dr Altas' office in August '08 and saw him for a consultation in October '08.  At that time he told me he would suggest I get my VSG in January '09.  At the end of Feb '09 I called his office and his secretary told me she would talk to Dr Atlas.  A week later I got a call from Sacré Coeur.  I am scheduled for April 1st.
Now... this seems pretty past... considering that most patients wait a very long time.. longer depending on the surgery type.  Dr Atlas told me that he was not the one that schedules, but there is a team that reviews the patients medical file and together they decide who needs the operation first based on many factors.
I have high blood pressure, beginning type 2 diebetes, high cholesteral, 2 different types of blood conditions that make me at high risk for blood cloths ( being overweight makes my risk even higher), I have PSO and was probably the cause of 8 miscarriages ( because being overweight makes the symptoms worse), I want more kids and the clock is ticking ( I am 36 y old) at risk of loosing my job because my job description has changed and I now need to go through physical training ( law enforcement), I have terrible back pain and I am off the line because of it, knee, hip and ankle pain.
Those were my complaints.. and those are the reasons why I need the surgery fast.  Dr Atlas agreed at the time and now I am having my surgery in just over a week.
I don't know your story.. of course we all have one, if not, we would not need a WLS.  There are differect factors for doctors wanting to operate on their patients.
I hope you are healthy, even if you are overweight... maybe that is way they think you can wait just a bit longer.
If you are not healthy... I suggest strongly you tell your story to your doctor.. Dr Atlas, or any other Dr.   I have never been so honest than with Dr Atlas.  I wrote a list of reasons why I needed this surgery and a list of questions.  I was so honest with myself and him that it was emotionnaly painfull.  Writting all the reasons why.. and being honest about how I feel about my health, my life, my pain was the hardest thing I had to do.  I beleive Dr Atlas was able to see how hard it was.. but how determinedd I was to fix my problem.  I just needed his help and his approval that this was the right decision for me.
I wish you luck.. do not despair.  While you are waiting, please, try to be better to yourself  --  body and mind!  Maybe this is the time you need to fix other stuff, because, as you well know, surgery is not the solution, it is only a tool that will help  :-)
Hope to chat soon :-)

I am waiting for approval with Dr Christou as this is the doctor that I was recommended to by my family doctor. His waiting list is like 3 years or longer and they do not base it on priority. I am getting desparate to have this done as I been dianosed with Lymph girdle distraphy and my weight does not help it. I am limited to the things I do and my doctor says it would help me out. At this point I am going to be paying for the procedure out of my pocket and it costs $18,500. I am planing to have the surgery in June.
