Hi, My name is Donna Jones and I live in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I was wondering if you got any response to your posting? I am also looking for a Doctor in Montreal or Ontario. I do know that there is a Dr. Christou that is running a private clinic and charging $18,500.00 for a gastric bypass surgery in MTL. But anything that is covered by health care must be performed in a hospital not a private clinic. I have been in contact with other Doctors in Alberta, they have a 3 year waiting list after your first consultation. I don't know how your health care works but from what I understand we are all covered no matter which province we wish to go to for surgery but you must have permission from your Ontario health care provider in-order for it to be covered. Back to Montreal Doctors, sorry I got side tracked. I do not know the name of the Doctors but apparently there is some at the Montreal General Hospital that do the surgery. I had my Doctor fax a referal to the hospital. I am contacting a Doctor Peter Szego in Westmount, MTL tomorrow, his # is 514-904-0666. I don't know if he is a possibility or not but I figure it's worth a shot. There is also a Dr. Fredric-Simon Hould at Laval hospital. He was supposed to call me back last week but he has not returned my call. His # is 418-656-8711. You have to ask for him and they will transfer you a couple of times and maybe even send you to the wrong dept. but it's worth a shot. I have had gastric bypass surgery but it has failed and there is no longer anyone in my province that performs this surgery, so I have to go elsewhere. So I am on the hunt for a surgeon. If you have any luck would you please let me know and vice versa. Take care and good luck, Donna

dr olivier court does the DS in montreal, both in a public hospital and in a private clinic. unfortunately, i don't think OHIP pays for people to have their surgery in quebec (which is insane, since they pay for surgery in the US, but that's a different rant), but i assume dr court takes ontarians in the private practice.  dr cristou (mentioned below) is partners with dr court, but he doesn't do the DS.

If you are still looking for a surgeon that does the DS in Canada, we have one who started doing consults in the fall and will be opening his clinic in Feb in Bathurst, NB.  He was trained in PQ under Dr P Marceau (one of the world's best).

Dr. Marc Savoie:  506-548-9960 Fax: 506-548-1898

Good luck,

M
