I am new to this forum and I am wondering about this procedure. Maybe someone who had it done could let me know how effective it is and why they chose this type of surgery. I am open to suggestion but I have to admit that my mind is pretty made up about this surgery. Let me know what you think. Thank you and have a nice day!

Sylvie, I had the VSG on Feb.15/2008 and have lost 30lbs since op and 10 more pre-op for a total of 40Lbs, you can not believe how great this is. My surgery was the easiest thing, medically speaking. I was out in 2 days and compared to the roux en y bariatric, I am healthy and will stay that way with no risk of lack of vitamins, hair falling out or gallblader problems! jf

Thank you for your reply. Wow I am thrilled to know that this surgery works so well for you. I hope I will be just as fortunate as you. Did you have a lot of weight to loose to begin with? Were you under medicare or did you have to pay? If so, may I ask how much did you pay? Who was your sugeon? Would you recommend him? How long did you have to wait for an apt. with your surgeon? How long between the initial apt. and the surgery? Are you eating food or puree now? If so, what type of food do agree with you or not? I am considering this option for the same reasons as you I think. I don't want foreign object (band), I don't want malabsorbtion problems, vitamins deficiancies, feeling weak and not energetic (I have enough of that now!) Sorry for bombarding you with all these questions. I want to thank you for your time and patience. Thank you again!

Hello, Thank you. My weight prior to the 2 week pre-op optifast was 292 lbs at 5'10 So far, I am at 250.8lbs, 2 months post op I was covered by Quebec medicare, free My surgeon is Dr. Henri Atlas, associated to Sacre Coeur Hospital in Montreal Yes, I recommend him, he is very good. I did not wait long for the apt. but from start to finish, 1 year total I have been on food since 2 weeks post op, no problems what so ever, if I make sure I control my qtys Your reasons to consider this surgery are right on, that is exactly how I felt. Good Luck!

Thank you for your reply. I made an appt. with Dr. Atlas and I will be seeing him on May 26. I am very nervous about it because I want him to accept me under medicare any pointer you could give me when I meet him would be greatly appreciated. My current weight is 235 lbs, I am 5'5 and I have a BMI of 40. I have to loose 100 lbs, I have high blood pressure that is controlled with medication and I am currently being tested for sleep apnea. I need this surgery so that I could get my life back, but I cannot pay for it. I hope he will take me under his care. Please let me know what you think, I value your opinion since it seems we are seeing eye to eye on this. That is why I called Dr. Atlas, since you recommend him, I am sure I will be happy with him, if he takes me that is! Do you think that anything I say will make a difference? Thank you again for you help, again!
