Hi, I've had a lapband in 2003 and originally lost 55lbs, since then I have had many issues from a hernia operation and and suppose to have a second op for the hernia because it didn't hold. I've had servere reflux, and my oesophogus acted as my stomach, since all these complications I have had to deflate the band and I have gained my weight back and more:( Now I am opting to have the gastric bypass privately though dr Christou at $18,000 crap....medicard has appoved me for $17,000, but I don't know what the rate and payment terms are yet. WOW life is really a roller coaster. LOL Alba Dr Jette

I'm assuming Dr. Christou did not perform your original lap-band surgery? If you haven't already, try speaking to him about the issues you've had..I doubt he'll make you pay the entire amount to have the RNY. The clinic offers several financing plans, some of which are on Dr. Christou's website www.weightlosssurgery.ca. I know their waiting lists are so crammed right now, I doubt they're taking anyone under medicare anymore, unless it's an emergency.

I suggest that you look at different options such as the Vertical Sleeve. I had it done on the 15th of Feb 2008 by Dr Henri Atlas and the wait is alot shorter than Cristou. Plus, the recovery and side effects are a hell of alot better. Good luck.
