New here - considering surgery

I live in the outskirts of Montreal and I need some advise. I've been dieting since I was a teenager, with no success, and my bmi is now at an all time high of 42. I am looking into RNY and lap band surgey. I've emailed Dr. Christou and he gave me the quote for the RNY. My husband doesn't know yet that i'm considering this - neither does the rest of my family (mom, dad, brothers) and I feel that they would think im totally out of my mind to want this. I don't just want this.. I need this. If there's anyone out there in MTL that can share their experiences with me, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hey there...I am in Montreal and Dr Christou in performing my RNY just over a month from now. And I completely understand how hard it is to make the decision and get the ball rolling. This QC board is kind of dead...but the RNY group is great for any other questions, how to go about telling family/friends also. There's also an english support group on the west island (in pointe-claire) if you're interested. The next one is Sunday (the 18th). Let me know Best of luck, feel free to msg me any time!

Meetings are usually on the 3rd Sunday of each month. 2-4pm and held at the west island community centre (114 Donegani, in Pointe-Claire).

hi all of you! New here also. I am from Gaspé. I have my consult with Dr. Christou on March 27th. I am going the private route also. I have SSQ insurance but apparently they do not cover gb surgery. I am going to try and push the issue though. As anyone in Québec managed to have their surgery covered by a personal insurance company?. I don't have the opportunity to join a support group and would like to know if I can use this board to have some. I am getting cold feet after doing so much reading and reading and rereading from other posts. Some people seem to have a hard team post op..... I am trying to stay optimistic about the whole procedure though . Mrs Smartie Pants and Brigitte keep us posted on your surgery and how you found the whole process. I am supposed to have my surgery in May also. Looking forward to getting to know all of you. tydo

I had the Vertical Sleeve and it was with Dr. Atlas on the 15th of Feb 2008. You should definately look into the differences between the Roux en Y and this surgery, you would be surprised at the benefits.
