So frustrating... I would like to be put on some list.  In case more Drs start doing the procedure, or we get a Dr on PEI to do it.

Yeah, I believe that is probably the case.

All I know is that their website says 10 years.  They might as well say don't bother.

Such a shame for all those waiting.

Yeah, and according to my Dr they are no longer doing the procedures in Halifax, they don't have any surgens qualified.

Don't want to discourage you but I Have been on the Halifax list for four years and have not been contacted.  Pretty much lost hope.

Hard to hear that from your doctor but he is probably right.

Hi all,

I'm a new member, and have been thinking about getting bariatric surgery for the last few months.

It all started when my Dr. suggested the surgery to me.  Long story short, I have been big my whole life, have tried every diet, fad, etc around, but to no avail, cannot keep any of the weight off.  At this point, the best I've been able to do is maintain my weight with a low calarie diet.

During the initial discussion with my Dr, he seemed very confident that I would be accepted for surgery, I have joint problems, high BP, and my resting glucose is now on the rise.  With these factors and a history of diabetes and heart disease in my family, it sounded like a good option.  He told me to think about it, and we would discuss at my next apointment.

Well my next apointment happened and now he is changing his tune, suggesting that I may not have "enough wrong with me" to qualify, mentioned that the wait time is now so long due to the Halifax surgen no longer doing the procedure.  Instead he suggest I see a homiopathic specialist (seriously??), and if I really wanted the surgery, and wanted it quick, I could go to a private clinic and have it done.

On a side note - I thought the referral to the homiopathic person was odd - cuz last time I was in he lectured me about not bying into pills and vitamins to lose weight, and how its a waste of money.

So now what?  Do I just keep harassing him until he give me the referral?  I'm worried that I'll never get on the list if he doesn't help...

Topic: Feeling pretty lonely

Well I had surgery July 9, 2013, I was doing great. I had the support of the weight loss team in Halifax, and had someone to answer to. Well February of this year I was released from the program, and was wished good luck. Well as time has gone on I have started to slip back into some bad habits. I feel trapped and very depressed for this is not how I thought it was going to be. I miss that support I had for 7 months, and now I am a lone again. I feel like a failure, I want to have a healthy and active life. This pass year has been one of turmoil and really don't think it was a good time to have my surgery. I lost my dad unexpectedly and he was my biggest supporter in this journey. Since my dad passed away I have become my moms partner. She relays on me for everything, and most times my time is not my own. I have tried to find a balance, but have failed so far. I hear of the success stories, and I dream of the day I can tell mine. Sorry for venting, just needed to let it out. Look forward to hearing more about everyone's success.
