Heartburn?

Hi Guys! I need some advice. Almost three weeks ago, I went to my Dr. for a fill. Right after that, I got really sick for almost 10 days with a sinus, ear infection. Since I've been feeling better, I've noticed that I almost always have that burning feeling of heartburn. I have never experienced this symptom once since banding. Now for my fill level, I'm pretty sure I'm too tight. I can only do warm liquids in the morning, my band does loosen up during the day. I have already decided to have my doctor give me a slight unfill, but wanted to know if the heartburn is a sign that something is wrong with the band, or I'm simply just too tight? I'm trying not to panic right now! Thanks, Marla

I don't have any experience with heartburn. Are you having any reflux? Night coughing, choking? If so, you need to get a slight unfill. It's almost always the cause of reflux. Feel better soon!

Nancy, I have no other symptoms except for the heartburn. I don't actually have any reflux, but am having trouble eating solid foods. I think I am going to get an unfill..I only have 10 more pounds or so to lose..why be miserable!

Sounds smart. Always listen to your body. You should be able to lose your last 10 with a looser fill. You've done very well so far!

Generally speaking, if you got the heartburn after a fill (esp. one that is too tight), then chances are, loosening it a bit will ameliorate your heartburn. You could ask your doctor if they prescribe Prevacid Solu-tabs to cut down on the irritation (it can cause swelling). If you are still not better, then sure, get it checked out with fluro or something, but honestly, it probably is just a bit of reflux due to too tight of a band. If you are choking at night, aspirating, constantly regurgitating food... then there could be a bigger problem. But it sounds like you are just a tad tight and swollen! Feel better!!! Let us know how the partial unfill goes!

My doc gave me strict instructions to contact him if i started to get heartburn regularly. He told me that it is often (not always) a sign that something is wrong - usually being too tight. I wouldn't panic at all! But I would contact my doc. Kate
