OT: Gearing up for the cold weather
Okay, all you cold weather living folks, any advice for a wuss who has to travel to Kansas City next week and Cincinatti the week of March 17?
Yep, the government is sending me to both those places - me the one who freezes here in Seattle!
Other than taking my big heavy coat (yes, I own one even here in Seattle because I get so cold now!) and drinking lots of lattes - any suggestions?
Thanks,
Vicki
P.S. I do have a warm weather trip in between those two - we are going to Spring Training in Arizona on march 7. Pool and bikini time and LOTS and LOTS of Mariners baseball! Life doesn't get any better than that....
Vicki, I doubt you'll be outside much, but I'd take a good hat, and gloves, with that coat! Nope, you won't want that stuff, in Az.! ha However, we have friends, who winter there, and they say it's been only in the 60's! Before you go, check the 10 weather report! You have time, yet! Sure you don't want to come to Wi.?? ha
Cold weather.... yeah... that is why I moved to Florida (I was born and raised in Michigan)!.
Shoes: make sure your shoes are solid leather or made without "vents" so that way the cold weather doesn't kill you. Running shoes typically have mesh or vents to help dry them out... you DON'T want that in the winter! I liked wearing Doc Martins or other solid leather shoes. I also chose ones that had a specialized sole (that is slip resistent to oil and other things... look at Doc Martins, Sketchers, etc).
Gloves/Hat/Scarf: Don't go with knit! The wind will tear through them and torture you!
Coat: I think you know, the warmer the better!
Sunglasses: yes... get sunglasses. The wind whips your eyes and you feel like you are slowly dying with each body numbing gust. I like the wrap sunglasses to reduce the wind from the sides.
Can you tell I hate the cold? haha! When it is 50 degrees, I am digging out my Columbia jacket!
