Took my labs with me to my first appointment with a new PCP today
I made the decision to change to a PCP closer to home. I had my first meeting with her today. So, we had to go over the history. The office had mentioned coming in for a "fasting blood work test" and being me, I said there was no way I could make it to 10:30 without my latte! But, that I would bring my January labs in with me. I emailed my surgeon's office and got the labs faxed over.
Well, the doctor couldn't quit RAVING about my labs. My cholesterol is so good it falls in the "awesome" range, my vitamin levels are all acceptable - even the D isn't bad and I live in Seattle!!!! She did suggest a D supplement as a precaution but said my D was better than the majority of her non-WLS patients.
Couple that with my blood pressure - it was something like 90/58 (or maybe that was 98/50) and my fitness level and she was thrilled. Oh, she also complimented my surgeon on his tummy tuck technique - she thought a plastic surgeon had done it until I told her it was my WL surgeon.
Why am I telling you all this? Because THIS is the reason we have weight loss surgery. To have healthy, active, useful and funfilled lives! Emphasis on the healthy.
Take care,
Vicki
Thanks Ann.
It's kind of interesting, I knew that I was healthy, I knew my cholesterol was good, I knew my blood pressure was good.... You get the idea. But hearing it from a doctor who didn't know me, so was looking at the data very objectively, just solidified it for me.
Weird, eh? My surgeon has been telling me this, my prior PCP (who I loved) was telling me this, everything in my intellectual self was telling me this - but having a new, unknown voice tell me made all the difference in the world.
