80% full rule...
So the Japanese live the longest and have virtually no heart disease. I was reading, and they actually have a word for eating to 80% fullness. Thats a common practice amongst the Japanese.
I dont know the word...but I am trying to apply it. And to qualify it is to 80% full...... not 80% stuffed. (the qualification is for my own benefit...lol)
(I wonder how much bariatric surgery they do in Japan?)
Well they did have a few people that were obese and then of course they had sumo wrestlers. But yes, obesity was not a problem until it became westernized and fast food was incorporated into their lives. Sucks that they adopted some of our unhealthy habits.
The other thing about the japanese is that they eat a large amount of fish and vegetables. Yes, they do eat rice, but they are not carbo-loaded like we are in the US.

They don't eat their own dang food!!! LOL when I go in for p/u... their is always someone just eating some white rice. And they feed us their pork grease, and we eat it... LOL I shouldn't say that for Japanese, their food is so much nicer... sorry I think I'm pulling an Archie Bunker on so many levels... forgive me
When I first joined there was a girl, Bev, that was in Japan, she was an american, she had a surgery where they inserted a balloon in the stomach and I think it was filled with saline, I think it was horrible for her, then from there she went to the band, but I don't think she did well, she kinda fell off the board, Sharon probably remembers her. She had a sushi avitar.
Well, that's cool, honey, once I hit my soft stop, spot, I think I AM about 80% full. As, I can eat past my soft stop. Not for me, but for some, I'd worry, about being hungry sooner, again, if, you know what I mean. Our culture, is different, in that, when we first feel hunger, we eat! It's like we're programmed to overeat. I really don't think ANY country, outside of the states, has had such an enormous problem, with obesity, until, we sent over KFC, MickyD's, Pizza hut, and the like! Don't even get me started, our country, is killing off future generations, with kids, NEVER getting good balanced meals cooked at home, anymore! We work, with the Women's abuse center, through our church, and they work, with obese children, also. So sad! Sorry, the fast food culture, that I used to load up on, is a very sore spot, with me, when it comes to children, being given money, to eat on their own, and we know what they choose. Didn't mean to pop off, I think this cabin fever, is getting to me! ha
School is fine...the family is adjusting and so am I...lol. I am starting my 5th week and I havent been doing much on the weekends because I try to get ahead on my house work and homework...I have turned into a boring dud! My head is always in a book or I am doing laundry it seems. But its an accelerated program so I have no choice but to put my 40 year old brain into gear and try and keep up...
How are you lovely lady?
Beth, you wouldn't get behaviour issues in japan but I don't reckon you would like to teach there either! It is incredibly regimented, from the early morning drills through to the compulsory school cleaning. The school day is much longer than ours and any child whose parents can find money gets sent to evening school and weekend school to cram for exams. This starts at a very early age with children of 8 and up spending literally hours a day AFTER school at study classes.
They are actually trying to change thigns because the young people were achieving fantastic levels of knowledge but no creativity. The government is therefore trying to change the curriculum to encourage inventions and innovative thinking - but the idea of working less has NOT taken hold!
