http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/lapband/a,messageboard/action,replies/board_id,5359/cat_ id,4959/topic_id,3527544/ It's on the band board under the subject line of "Band placed in the wrong spot" or something like that. I am having trouble believing this. I hate to be a doubting Thomas though, but this just doesn't seem possible. Have any of you ever heard of this happening? I looked at the history of the poster and she has been around off and on for years. I have no reason to doubt she has the band, I just have never heard of this type of thing happening. What do you all think? Vicki

I don't see ANY doctor worth his salt telling a patient he accidentally placed the band wrong (not around the stomach). I mean, is he an idiot? Why would he open himself up for a lawsuit? I do know that band placement and the angle that it is placed is key, but I can't see him missing the whole thing. I have heard some horror stories though about people going to off the wall places (out of the country), and ending up with messes, or no bands at all. One revision doc actually removed a big rubber band from someones stomach. This sounds fishy though, for a doctor to actually say this.

Thanks Nancy. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this sounds fishy. That is a pretty amazing story - a rubber band on the stomach? Makes you wonder how much research the patient did. I know it can be cheaper out of the country, but is it really worth it?

Well, I went to Mexico, but I went to a very reputable doctor. Trust me, there IS a difference!

There are good and bad everywhere. Some folks spend more time researching the car they want buy than the surgeon they are going to use.

It sounds like a joke. Its to hard to believe. A doctor who did 1,000 band surgeries would know where to place the band. And no doctor would admit he put it in the wrong place he would blame everything and everybody else because he wouldnt want his malpractice insurance to skyrocket after they get through suing him.

Yeah, sounds that way to me too. I even posted and asked her why he was putting in a new band. I had a slipped band, and I still have the original band. My surgeon just moved it back up into the proper spot. Never took it off the stomach. Just too many inconsistencies to believe this one.

It's just bizarre to me. And if she is at 23.7 BMI or so, where is all that fat that the band is around?

Good question!

I also find it very strange that this person has no info about themselves in their profile. No doctor's name and no location etc. I can't believe any real surgeon doing what she said happened to her. If it is true she has one heck of a lawsuit. If you hear anything more I am anxious to know.
