What do you all think??

I am not sure how much I have in my band. I think somewhere around 2.5 ccs in a 4 cc band. Anyway, I feel like I am easily getting things stuck and I have to sit and wait it out (which is very frustrating when you are hungry and only have 10 minutes to eat before baby cries..ugh) Anyway, once I get past the tight feeling, I feel like there is no end to the amount of food I can eat. Do I need another fill?? I know this sounds like a newbie question but it has been awhile since I have actually tried to work my band.

I'm not sure what to answer you. I think that this may be a question for your doctor. You may be having first bite syndrome.

Hi Robyn, Sounds very much like first bite syndrome. I agree with Marcia, talking to your doctor is best. In the meantime, there are a few things you could try. You could have some water just before you eat (this is against my doctor's suggested program, but I use it when I hear of someone having problems with the first bite). See if the fluid right before eating helps stop the first bite issue. If that doesn't work, another thing to try is making your first bite (and only your first bite) a mushy food rather than solid protein. After that bite, wait for several minutes before you try anything else and then go to your protein like you are supposed to. Good luck and again - your doctor is your best line of defense on this one! Vicki

I'm with the others. Sounds like first bite syndrome. I get this sometimes and I find that a hot drink before eating helps me get that first bite down. However, if you are anything like me, the fact that i can eat lots AFTER that first bit usually means that despite the initial difficulty, i need a small fill. Could it be that witht he pressure of the baby needing attention you are rushing that first bit? Kate

Hi Robyn, It does sound like first bite, however, it could be that you're just swollen. Once in a while, if If get really stuck on something, I have to really try to stay on soft foods (soups, cottage cheese....and by the way, I hate the mushie phase). It gives the swelling a chance to go down and then I can go back to normal eating. Good Luck!

Robyn, I have the same thing and I chaulk it up to first bite syndrone. I usually have a warm drink of water to relax the band if food gets stuck then I am able to proceed with my meal. Ideally, I probably should drink the water right before eating but I never thing of it until after being stuck. I have 9.5 cc's in my 10 cc band. I am afraid to have another fill. I know how you feel about the quantity of food. I just have to put the correct amount on my plate and eat ONLY that. It's hard because I feel I can eat more. This is my big challenge right now along with exercise so I can lose the last 30 lbs.

Robyn, I agree with the others that it sounds like it could be first bite syndrome. For me if I drink anything cold before trying to eat it makes my band tighter. I would try something very warm and start eating immediately after drinking it. Also you might want to watch how big of a bite you are taking and how good your chewing. I'm sure it's easy to get distracted now (which I'll be finding out very soon). If you're still having trouble you may need a VERY small unfill. Amy

Honey, I have that problem, from time, to time, and take a few sips of lukewarm water, before, I eat, usually. THAT works for me. That's why I always order hot tea, first, when, I'm in a restaurant! ha
