Clothing Designs for WLS Patients
Argh! It is SO frustrating to try and find good quality fitting clothes. As I lose I find I'm needing to buy new clothes but they're not fitting right for a variety of reasons.
Because of that I had a thought for a new business (I don't want to take it on but I'll take a royalty if any of you do decide to do it) -- adjustable clothing for WLS patients (and non-ops who have a multitude of sizes to lose).
Imagine something like wrap skirts. We could easily use them through a variety of size changes. Now, how about something like a modified hakama (http://www.loyola.edu/maru/hakama.html) for pants? It'd take a little getting used to but once you figured out how to put it on. Then, there are Japanese-style tops that are like wrap tops that could also be used and modified for dresses.
Here's another example of my "thoughts": http://www.karizadesigns.com/ I found this place while I was in Vegas and was very disappointed that their sizes wouldn't go big enough for me. I even seriously considered buying two or three or whatever it took to get around my huge (but shrinking) chest. I really like the versatility of the design and the fact that you can get two different looks because of the layered fabric.
Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions?
Of course I would love some of this to take on my cruise next week but its next week -- and I just thought about it. But it would have been great to only pack a couple of things I could hand-wash and still have so many looks. Then I could ditch my wardrobe and still have something functional that would always fit.
What a great idea Lori! I can not tell you how much money I spent on clothes when I was losing. I would get to a size, think that was it, go out and buy my work wardrobe and guess what? That darn scale would start moving again!
Okay, so I didn't really call it a darn scale since I enjoyed the downward movement. But it sure was expensive.
Another idea for your line of clothing - the maternity pants that have the tabs on the sides rather than the stretchy panel in front. Kind of like the kids clothing now. They have an elastic tab inside the pants so you can make the pants tighter then loosen them as the kid grows. It would be the opposite for us.
