I Had Another Fill Today - I Talked to the Doctor About a Revision
I went back to the doctor today - My DH had an appointment. I asked for another fill which he gave me while I was there. I gained a 1 1/2 pounds. I have gained a little bit 2 months in a row. I follow the rules. I might as well eat chocolate cake for all the good my band has been doing for me lately... I haven't really lost anything for about 6 months. Next Wednesday is my 2 year Bandiversary and I am going no place fast.
I talked to my surgeon today about revision surgery. It is possible that my metabolism is just too slow for me to lose any more. I am considering getting gastric bypass... Please don't yell at me! I don't want to slowly put all of my weight back one! I can't go backward! Restriction may not be enough for me anymore.
Please give me your 2cents...
Marcia it has got to be so hard living with a successful bypass spouse! I cant imagine the two of you...lol. If you are truly stuck and your doc thinks bypass is the way to go...and you are comfortable...(you live with bypass everyday so you would know)..then go for it. I hate to see you stuck in limbo land or gaining weight. Does your doc do VSG?
If I am having this problem because of metabolism that is slow he said that VSG is not even an option. It just wouldn't work. My metabolism has always been slow. I never ate huge amounts of food to start with. I'm just hoping that by some miracle todays fill will be the one that makes all the difference. I have lost 85 pounds. It may be that this is all that the band will do for me...

Marcia,
I support whatever decision you make. I have never entertained the idea, because I'm self-pay and this is it for me. It has to work, or I'm dieting the rest of my life. Or I do both (which is what I'm doing!)
If this is not a financial situation, and just a health situation...why not investigate all your options, including the sleeve? It certainly sounds healthier. But if restriction is not enough now, will it be enough with the sleeve? I just don't know the answer to that.
The sleeve isn't even an option if it is my metabolism. I got me insurance to cover the first surgery only after 3 appeals - the final one to the New York State Dept of Insurance. I just know that I would have a huge fight on my hands again to get it paid for. There is no way that I have the money myself to pay for it...
I just am so afraid that I will gain all of it back one pound at a time.
The band is not the answer for everyone. That is the frustrating part - what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another. It just doesn't seem right, but that is how it is.
I would suggest you give this fill a chance to work - maybe it is the one that gets you there. If so, great! If not, then I think you have to look at all options and decide what will work best for you.
Take care and good luck.
Marcia, isn't there something they can do about your metabolism? My doctor told, me, my body was done losing. He didn't mention my metabolism. I've weighed the same for 3 years, now. I can't imagine why the Sleeve wouldn't work, though. I wish you all the best, and sure hope this fill will give you a boost, hon! Keep us posted!
