Trish,

So happy to see you back on the board.  I have missed seeing your postings.  Also happy that things are progressing nicely on the foot front.  You'll be back to driving before you know it.  I know that you love being near the munchkins and I am sure that your daughter and son-in-law are also very happy to have you around.  Glad that you still will be checking in with your old PA peeps.  We need to see the familiar faces around the board.  IT's spring training so I hope that you can get the Phillies' games out there.  I also hope that this season goes better than the last one did.  Anyhow just wanted to let you know that you have been missed.  Take care.

Hey Laureen,

Thanks for your encouragement.  I've been to meetings here before, so I know where they're at.  Unfortunately, I can't drive for two weeks, and my daughter has a nine month old, three year old, and five year old to keep her crazy busy, I feel horrible asking her to take me to doctor appointments.  Today is the end of the first week, so I have one more week of not driving.  If the meetings were closer, it would be different for me.  I used to live five minutes from the 12 Keys in Bristol, which has four or five meetings a day.  Now, the closest clubhouse is 30 minutes from here, and it has one meeting a day.  The closest meeting outside the clubhouse is a Mens meeting.  The rest are 30 minutes.

I still talk to my PA sponsor regularly.  I am grateful that the thought of a drink never comes to mind, as I haven't even had the desire for a drink since January 2010.  I'm praying a lot, and keeping in constant contact with God.

Hugs,

Trish

Trish,

Good to hear that you are settling in and that hopefully all the issues you've had to deal with are now left behind.  Fresh start and hopefully a wonderful new adventure with you being able to share in the munchkins lives!

Hope your foot heals well and that Michigan is a good place to be.  I'm sure you will make lots of new friends through your church affiliation, as well as once you get connected with AA there!  That is one of the beautiful things about being in recovery, if you move and get connected through taking an AA job you will quickly make lots of new friends!

Best wishes, Laureen

Hello PA Peeps,

After breaking my right foot right before Christmas, then having surgery on it right after Christmas, I spent six weeks recuperating at my sister's in Levittown, while my belongings came to my new home in Michigan.  Finally, Thursday, I got my cast off, received a boot, and left with my son driving.  I am now settling into my new home, which I am renting from my daughter and son-in-law.  They unpacked my kitchen, and organized it better than I ever could have.

I had all three of my kids, and grandkids here when I arrived.  Chris had flown from New York to Detroit for business on Thursday, and couldn't get a return flight Friday, because of the snow.  So he had Colleen pick him up, and we had some great time to visit.

I've been getting acclimated to the snow, and cold, while Utley is glad to be back on his own couch.

I'll be checking in regularly, now that I have Internet.

Hugs,

Trish

Laureen,

Sounds like a very productive weekend for you.  So glad that the gym is working out for you.  My weekend was fairly quiet.  I stayed in on Saturday, did some laundry and caught up on some phone calls.  Yesterday I met a friend for lunch.  Today I am doing my mom's taxes and getting a massage.  Tomorrow it is off to school to work on the candy sale and maybe volunteer in the 1st grade.  Even though it is a blah day I am happy that we did not get the snow that NY and New England received over the weekend.  Hope that the rest of your day went well.

Thank you, I never even thought of the fact that I may have to do presurgery stuff over again for another surgeon. UGH. I know when I talked to the surgeon before he was going to get all of my testing done in one day then have me come back for surgery but IDK if the testing I've already done could be transfered or if I would have to do it over again. UGH that would suck if I did. I talked to my surgeon and she said there is NOTHING they can do to make it an earlier appointment unless someone cancels. UGH I'm sooooo frustrated.

Well hell, if it's got to rain, best be on a Monday. . . at least here it's washing all the snow away. . .what little we had in this area (Philly/Western South NJ).

I had a busy, yet laid back weekend thanks to the weather. . .  Saturday I did the gym thing in the a.m., came home, cleaned my house, then went to dinner with a friend of mine, stopped to pick up a few sale items at the grocery store and then home where I was tired and falling asleep while playing the silly game I have become addicted to (Candy Crush Saga (lol)).  Sunday it was to the gym, home to have breakfast, out to an AA meeting and then home where I made a nice Beef Goulash for dinner, a quick visit to my son's house, home to have dinner and cook up some veggies for my work week, so that my food plan is in order for success.  Went to bed at a decent hour unsure as to whether I'd be up to the gym this morning, having gone 3 days in a row.

So I woke up at 5:15 and decided to take my time and go to the gym this evening instead of the early morning workout I usually do during the week. . .  I am listening to my body, trying to keep with a plan and not wear myself too thin with it, because that sets me up for a case of the "f its". . .  The good news is I am finally seeing results, the scale has moved downward, it is slow going, but results is what matters to me and if all continues in this trend, I might actually feel a sense of accomplishment.  I just want to fit comfortably in the clothing that is in my drawers for the season to come. . .  no new clothing in bigger sizes is my object!

For those of you early in your journey, don't be put off by my post, this is a lifelong process of unlearning and relearning new ways to maintain what this life altering surgery gives us, but it is not easy once you pass the first few years and what you learn to do in the early stages will keep you maintaining a more healthy and happier lifestyle for years to come.  I fell off the exercise wagon and at my age, there is very little wiggle room (I am almost 58).

Well folks, it's a good day to be alive and I am grateful to be healthy and well and unlike the song, I am not down. . .

Hugs, Laureen

While you have options, I think one of the things you may want to consider is the proximity to your home from the place of surgery in terms of being able to pursue aftercare.  I think I'd be very upset in your situation, but would have to weigh it out.  There are some folks here (Philly Area) who've used some good VSG surgeons, so you have options, just weigh them all out before jumping.  The other thing to consider is given that you will, essentially, be starting over with whatever their (new surgeon) requirements are, you may wind up with a date closer to April then not. . .  it never hurts to look at all your options, but just thought I'd throw out the obvious that you may or may not have considered with the level of frustration you are probably experiencing right now.

Either way, best wishes for you!

Laureen
