Sharing on age and heat/cold

I had a couple things come to mind this weekend, related to WLS and figured I'd share them with people who understand.

I am 52 years young.  I was having a lot of fun this weekend, but got a glimpse of myself dressed for summer in a full-length mirror.  EWWWW.  Well, I have spider veins, unbelievable thigh cellulite, extra skin that makes it difficult to see that I have knees, etc. etc.  But I am in love, and I was fully participating in summer fun at an OA picnic on Sunday.  And I realize that I FEEL much younger than I look.  LOL.  And, well, frankly, that's WONDERFUL, because the reverse of that would be feeling much older than I look.  I mean maybe I look 60 and feel 25, which is so much better (in my book, at least) than looking 25 but feeling 60 (or more).  Am I making any sense?

The other thing is that since losing weight I have never lost that "Jeez, I'm always cold" feeling.  When I was heavy, I was always HOT.  I mean putting on my socks made me break a sweat hot.  I would get out of the shower and start sweating as I was toweling off.  Now, I'm always on the "cool" side.  Even in the high temperatures this weekend, I was comfortable.  I needed a sweater in the movie theater.  I turn OFF the air conditioning when Bill goes to work, and sleep with just the ceiling fan going.  It is one of the effects of surgery that I still appreciate.

Thanks for letting me share.

Blessings, Jill

Jill,

I definitely feel the cold a lot more readily now and always carry a wrap with me when I go places that are air conditioned and sometimes a sweater.  I am fine with the heat, however, the really humid weather makes me wilt some. . .  but it is nothing like it used to be for me, I could not even go outside in the really humid weather, my breathing would get labored and my heart pound in my chest, mowing the yard was at least a 2 hour ordeal, yesterday I went out and mowed both my front and back yards in under 50 minutes. . .  life today is wonderful, I am going on 57 years young and feel much more like a woman in her 30s. . .

Thanks for sharing the joys of living life in the summer, as a thinner, healthier and younger feeling person and you made absolute sense.

Laureen

Yep, same here. I'm more on the cool side since losing weight. I'm not always cold but I'm definitely more cold than I used to be. I'm ok with it though.

 Hi Jill,
Except for an occassional hot flash, I am chilled all the time.  I prefer this hot weather than the winter cold.  Also, although I feel old due to chronic ongoing health problems, I love the healthy, strong feeling I have most of the time.  When I look in the mirror, I see the flaws, the batwing arms, and the sagging skin.  But, I also see a woman *****spects herself, and treats her body as God's temple.

Hugs,
Trish

I am cold almost all the time! FL weather agrees with me but even there I get chilly at night or in too much AC.

first of all "gasp"! I am 56 and seriously do not feel like it and have been told that I dress "young" I don't mean skin tight clothing or boobs hanging out or too low cut but I pull off alot of tops and dungarees I could wear years ago I wear what is my comfort zone. I ride in the summer on the horse wearing tank tops and carpenter dungarees and danskos so its not an age thing its how we feel as a person frankly we are not princesses anymore so it is what it is. And I have gotten over that. As far as feeling cold well I for one in the winter sleep with an electric mattess pad flannel pjs flannel sheets electric blanket and comforter yep I am cold and when I go anywhere I make sure I have a hoodie or sweater just in case because I lost my insulation when I lost my weight including warmth so you are not alone. I really think that because we make the choice to go on this journey in the back of our mind its like oh gosh this is our chance to do what was held back due to being overweight and damn it I for one am taking it!
