first post on here so hello everybody :) i am in the process of doing all my pre stuff for wls through abington. it is something i've been thinking about for at least ten years now and i'm ecstatic i'm doing it now. i am curious to see and hear from other who have donewls through abington memorial-thoughts and such. i want to do as much research as possible  especially what other abington patients think of the whole process and what they experienced and all.
thanks :)

Welcome!  I'm a  Barix baby, so I can't help you out with the abington stuff, but still wanted to say hello.  This is a great board with lots of support.

Hi Michelle,
I had my surgery at AMH, but my surgeon is Dr. Kolff.  I've never met Dr. Bonanni, all that I know about him is that he is head of the weight loss surgery department.

Do you know what type of surgery you're having?  As for me, I had the Realize Band surgery.  I know that there are monthly meetings that they have, but I've never gone.  It's open to patients that had surgery anywhere, but I'm sure that would be a great place to meet and talk with patients of Dr. Bonanni's.

Anyways, good luck to you.

And as far as having my surgery through AMH, I actually never looked at anywhere else.  I've always had a good experience with Abington Hopsital and the doctors/specialists associated with them.

My surgeon, Dr. Kolff, is a very nice guy and seems very knowledgeable.  The staff (nurses, Physician's Assistants, secretaries) have always been very kind and helpful with any problems, or questions that I've had.  I would definitely recommend the Institute for Metalic & Bariatric Surgery at Abington Memorial Hospital.

Welcome aboard Michelle.  I did not have my surgery at Abington, either, but wanted to welcome you to the best board on OH.

There is a wealth of knowledge to be had so ask any questions you have and we will do our best to help you.

Hi Michelle,

Welcome to the PA Board!

My best friend had DS at Abington and I really felt that they did not give the proper attention.
They didn't have her up and walking, drinking, practicing breathing and such. I had RNY at Barix almost two years ago and I saw  a DISTINCT difference!! I am not trying to scare you, but I wanted to give you my honest opinion.

The care at Barix was BEYOND AWESOME! You basically get one on one care. I don't know if your insurance would cover at Barix, but you might want to look into it!

Good luck to you!

Beth

MIchelle, just a word of welcome to you! After 10 years it is a BIG decision.

I don't know Abington Hospital but would recomend that you ask a LOT of questions of your doctor about the hospital experience, eating plan, and post op support (both support groups and how to reach him if there is a need). The more questions you ask, the more peace of mind you will have!

 Hi Michelle and welcome!!!
I had my sx with Dr B. at AMH a year ago next week......I had  a GREAT experience with them and LOTS of success....I go today for my  one year check up.....Have missed the support  meetings due to the illness and death of my Dad recently.....Had RNY and it would be my pleasure to answer any questions you may have!   Time to get myself back on track......Losing a parent  and a major life change sometimes is NOT a real good mix....Good LUck and keep in touch!!    I do not know how to change my pix  but have lost 106 #S  and feel GREAT!!!!   HUGS   Pam Rock!

Hi Michelle - welcome to the PA Boards - we don't discriminate about where people have their surgery - there are a lot of us Barix babies out here, but also lots of other hospitals - you have to decide where you're most comfortable - the surgeon you prefer - the service they offer - their experience, etc. If you've been waiting 10 years I'd say it's safe to assume you have done your homework on the subject.

Want to wish you all the best!! This is one of THE BEST support boards out there, so please visit often - or become a regular!!

Kathy
