OT: Wigs and Heads

While cleaning out the downstairs bedroom closet last night I came across the bin that held my moms wigs and heads (for the wigs...) - does anyone know of someplace I can donate them? A beauty school or something for students to work on? I doubt that any cancer center would take them because of health/hygiene issues? But she did have some lovely wigs and I hate to just ditch them but am not sure what else to do with them. I'm open to suggestions. Thanks.

Try calling a local Beauty school, or donate them to Goodwill or something. To be honest, I have gotten wigs at thrift stores for Halloween or whatever. And my daughter plays with them now for "dress up"

Hey, as long as they don't go in the trash I don't care what they're used for. She didn't buy real expensive wigs but she also didn't wear them hard so they're in good shape. Maybe I'll check with my stylish because I think her daughter just finished beauty school. If not then off to GW they go! Thanks.

I would also contact a local wig shop or Gilda's Club or support group that deals with cancer patients - they may actually have a protocol for cleaning/sanitizing them that would allow them to be donated.  If they are natural hair wigs, they may also be able to "recycle" them in some way for use in other wigs.

Thanks Karen - I'll try that first - she took very good care of them, using the special shampoo to wash them - even had them professionally styled when she got them, so it would be a shame to let them go to waste if someone can use them.
