Jumping in...
I joined OH back in 2005, but never really did anything with my weight. Now my RNY is scheduled for next Wednesday, and I'm scared and excited all at the same time! I'm doing great on the pre-op liquid diet.. no cheating so far! I guess I'm just a little worried about what I should have in the house post-op. I'll take any and all advice about things I need to get this weekend in preparation... can anyone help me out?
WElcome aboard!!
Don't stock up on any one protein shake, your tastes are going to change drastically post-op. I'd get as many samples as you can and start there to see what you like. Things to have on hand:
chicken & beef broth
greek yogurt
jello
pudding
milk
decaf peppermint tea (this is a god-send if you are gassy or have an upset pouch - both things are highly probable)
crystal light (or something similar)
These are really the basics. Depending on what your surgeons food plan is for the first few weeks it might vary slightly but this should give you an idea. You are going to be surprised at how little you will actually consume for a while.

Welcome and best of luck, Kelly!
You can get some samples at netrition.com. You're looking for weight-loss ones, NOT body-building ones (it's easy to get them confused). You can also look at GNC (they have a great policy on returns if you don't like something, so you can try things with a lot less risk). Also check out health food stores near you. I'd also suggest asking your doctor and nutritionist which ones they specifically recommend.
Personally, I find Matrix and Nectar to be good brands that were easy to digest early on. I still have Matrix chocolate on hand all the time for morning protein shakes.
As to greek yogurt, make sure you get PLAIN (not sweetened). You might also want to get some sugar-free flavored regular yogurts, too. The greek yogurt you can add to broths, soups, purees, etc. to boost the protein content and creaminess without adding fat. If you want to sweeten it you can do so with pureed fruit and a little splenda or with some SF fruit preserves or jelly. I use it (and now the whole family does) exactly like sour cream... even to subbing for sour cream in recipes.
As Liz said, don't stock up on TOO much of anything, though - your tastes will change and you'll be shocked at how little you're actually consuming in the first few weeks. As your tastes continue to change in the 3-6 months after surgery, you'll be changing up your grocery shopping to adapt, so play it by ear.
Congratulations!

Kelly, welcome aboard!
Even now, a year after surgery, my tastes change when it comes to protein shakes. I get tired of one...get a different one on the next trip to the store. Some flavors last a long time because I just use them for a little variety now and then, too.
I loved ginger tea, too. It has a nice flavor without being sweet or salty.
Stay in touch! This is the BEST board!
Hi Kelly - welcome to the PA forum....we are thrilled to have you here! Good for you on the pre-op diet - and as for the word cheating - I , for one, have always disliked that word - we are on a new path - there is NO cheating - there is JUST life. I wish you the best with your upcoming surgery and look forward to making room for you on the loser's bench!
Welcome Kelly - congratulations on your pending surgery!! Not much else I can add to what the others have already told you except make sure you watch out for things with high sugar content - CHECK EVERY LABEL because you just never know what will cause you to dump - others have heard this from me before but I like to warn newbies - I took Liquid Tylenol with Power Boost 2 weeks post-op for pain in my back and dumped like there was no tomorrow!! If you haven't heard about dumping its like getting the worst case of the flu you can imagine - chills, shakes, sweats, nauseau - all you can do is lie down in a fetal position and pray for it to pass - and it will. Anyway, READ the labels - that is key!!
And yes, take that 'cheating' word right out of your vocabulary - we've lived with that damn word and it sucks!! I had to do a 10 day liquid diet pre-op and one night I ate some of the noodles out of the soup - and didn't beat myself up about it - it happened - I didn't eat a lot - and I got over it.
Wishing you all the best with your surgery - come here often - we're very addictive!!

good luck, it will be over with before you know it.
I would add to those suggestions
baby spoons (to remind you to eat slower)
1/2 cup and 1/4 cup sized lidded bowles( you will probably need to travel with you own food for a few weeks)
zip lock baggies (same reason)
insulated lunch bag (helps keep the water cold and yogurt fresh)
icee packs (the reusable kind)
a blender or magic bullett ( for making the protein shakes even better)
a food processor( for the puree stage)
