NSV.. or actually surgical victory!!

So my employer, Aetna, offered a voluntary testing for Metabolic Syndrome.  The results of the testing program and our tobacco user status impacts how much we will pay for our 2011 insurance premiums. (Yes, we still have to pay premiums even though we work here... don't get me started on that)

Anyway, if we participate in the testing and the results show we are within range for at least 3 of the 5 metabolic risk factors, then we earn a $300 annual premim credit on the medical plan rates.

I was able to have the testing done right at Aetna by Quest employees free of charge.

My results:

Measurement         desired Range          Your Results           Your Status
Blood Glucose      <=110 mg/dl                   84                             In Range
Blood Pressure       =130/85 mmHg          124/82                         In Range
HDL Cholesterol      >=50 mg/dL               60                               In Range
Triglycerides             <=150 mg/dl             51                               In Range
Waist Circumference <=35 inches             39                          Out of  Range

So, as you can see I am IN range for 4 out of 5 risk factors.  As for the waist circumference, according to my notes from the beginning, day of surgery, it was 47 inches.  So, I sure as heck am not going to complain about a 39 circumference.  I think I was also bloated that morning, too.  LOL.

I've been working hard on my abs, so hopefully when they redo the test next year, my goal is to be within range there, as well.

$300 huh?

Hey this is celebration money...kind of like "found" cash! Buy yourself a gift! (Let's see, I'd be looking for boots, clothes, maybe some jewelry or a nice purse...)

I don't think we will get it in a lump sum.. I think it's more like $300 off the cost of the premiums, but still.. that is extra money in my pocket.

Well you could consider it a "trickle effect" sum and still reward yourself! (Can you tell I am into the rewards thing?)

That's a great report card, girl!!!  What a wonderful way to really measure your success in this journey.

And I have to say - kudos to Aetna for using something like this to reward healthy behaviors with lower premiums.  It makes so much sense to positively reward for making healthy choices.... wish more employers did!

Very cool, scientific proof that you are awesome!  That is a great incentive for the employees to be healthy, too.
